Since the game now has more Wonders, more buildings, and more ways to (potentially) address things like overpopulation, sanitation, and plebian happiness, I have to ask "where the hell are the coliseums"? I'm happy of course that we have things like Temples, Forums, Granaries, Aqueducts, etc. but I'm wondering if there are any plans to incorporate more buildings, particularly buildings like coliseums and bath complexes that are so iconic of the era?

Coliseums - I'm happy that our ruler can choose to spend some of their cash (and the state's?) in order to hold public games in order to curry favor with people. (I find it odd that only a ruler can do this, no longer just any wealthy character, but I digress). From Africa to Gaul to Asia, the need for entertainment and thrills exist in the lower and upper classes. Coliseums fulfilled a very real need for the people; levity, entertainment, distractions, and a platform for up-and-coming politicians to address potential voters. If the game is ever looking to expand their catalog of "one per province" building types, I think Coliseums are an absolute must. In terms of game function, there are many routes you could take: public happiness, freeman happiness, additional gold, political influence, provincial loyalty, increased value of specific trade goods, just to name a few. (Another thing, there should be a trade good for "exotic animals". Lions, bears, zebras, etc. were commodities that were prized and traded for their use in menageries and coliseum games. Just a thought.)

Bath Complexes - As I understand it, bath complexes were a common sight across antiquity. They were places were sanitation, recreation, and business could take place. They occupied the time of idle freeman in large cities. Building bath complexes were a common method of building trust with the locals. In gameplay terms, they should definitely be stackable, reflecting their widespread proliferation. As for actual bonuses, I'm not sure. I leave it to the devs.

Lastly, the Circus Maximus - This has to be possibly the most famous of all Ancient Roman monuments, along with the Senate House and the Triumphal Arch. How can it be that we don't have this iconic building in the game? Rome should definitely get an event that prompts them to build this and updating/expanding it should be a frequent drain on their treasuries (gotta keep the people happy, amirite?)

Yeah I’ve thought the same thing from the beginning, it’s surprising those building aren’t already a thing.

Yeah, even the Empire era legionnaire fortresses had rather intricate bath complexes with several different types of baths in them. Rome had a shit-tonne of them.

Isn't a collisseum functionally identical to a theatre for the scale Imperator operates at? It just represents investment in infrastructure for culture & entertainment. Don't really see what the point is in seperating it out as a seperate building.

Isn't a collisseum functionally identical to a theatre for the scale Imperator operates at? It just represents investment in infrastructure for culture & entertainment. Don't really see what the point is in seperating it out as a seperate building.

If the point of the theater is to perform cultural assimilation, I can envision this as a Greek Kingdom or Poleis putting on fantastic plays and performances that espouse the excellence of Hellenism. Over time, Macedonians and Illyrians in the audience might be moved or their customs altered or their way of thinking changed due to the arguments and ideas put forth in the theaters. I can see where they're going with this and given just how important accepted cultures are in Imperator, i can see the niche being filled by Grand Theaters

Coliseums, on the other hand, are nothing about trying to woo the audience of other cultures to the superiority of your culture and everything about fast races, public executions, and gladiatorial games, all designed to keep the people happy and garner political influence. Coliseums should be about appeasing a large mass of people who might otherwise realize that they outnumber richer men, patricians, and royals. They should be all about appeasement and popularity.

I understand where the distinction might be fuzzy, both are large buildings where people gather and watch 'shows'. But they cater to different classes of people and serve different purposes. The point of the theater is to think and be moved. The point of the coliseum is to feel a rush. Upper classes might attend private shows at a Grand Theater and would have their own boxes in the Coliseum. Lower classes might be able to attend mummer's shows at the Grand Theater but fill the seats of the Coliseum.
