1st Time out questions

Am a good bit into my first game (DD '36 Germany), and had some things pop up that raised some questions.

1) When taking over provinces, the previous owners stick around, often for days. The province shows as mine, but they don't leave. Is this some way to show that although I own the province, the defenders are still scattered around and attempting to withdraw?

2) During the 1930's I waited and waited for the anschluss, but it never happened. I kinda got stuck in a dead end war with Rep. Spain, when I made the silly mistake of allying with Nat. Spain, then proceeded to watch as Rep. Spain wiped the floor with them (taking an SS MTN Corps with it too!!!) Anyways, I was technically at war for the bulk of 1937-1938. Do you have to be at peace for the anschluss to happen? I'm in 1939 now, so I know I've missed it.

3) I had Guderian killed in action during the invasion of Poland (odd, I know - One minute, he's leading the 1st Panzerarmee through a breach, and the next thing I know, I'm at his funeral with LTG Hoth crying on my arm) But here's the kicker - he was researching a doctrine for me, and the research continued. Not that I'm complaining - but great Guderian's ghost!!

4) During my invasion of Denmark, I had just started, and conducted one battle attacking Copenhagen, when the whole country just annexed itself to me. I didn't do anything, and had yet to take all the VP provinces. Is this normal? Again, not that i'm complaining.


Finally, as a note to other first timers out there -don't get impatient and invade Czechoslovakia - it will come to you. I made that mistake - and what do you know, the Poles get involved, then while I'm spanking them (this is all in 1938 mind you) I'm hit from behind by the French and Brits. Ouch.

first things first

1- they are retreating from the province but haven't finished retreating yet.

2- not exactly sure I'll leave it for someone else to answer.

3- I believe tech teams, ministers, leaders each have their separate ID and even
if a tech team is supposed to go away or die they will do so after they finish the current project they are researching.

4- Denmark get an event when you get the first province north of mainland Germany that basically surrenders the country and gives Iceland/Greenland to the UK. (the event happens to Denmark and not to Germany)

1. They are retreating and will continue to wherever they are going until they get there. If you control the retreat destination province and have any units present they are destroyed when they get there.

2. Anschluss requires at peace as do several of the German 1930s event chains

3. Leaders and tech teams are completely different and the game doesn't know they are the same man. Just assume Guderian's staff carry on the project after his death.

4. Denmark have an event that surrenders to Germany and gives Iceland/Greenland to the US

I might be mistaken then as I've seen them controlled by the UK so I thought the UK had an event that gave em to the US but that might've simply been me annexing Denmark via landings and then the UK doing landings on Iceland and Greenland.

I think they got to the UK first, but then get traded to the USA or an event gives them to the USA.

If I'm not mistaken, Island & Greenland will stay in German hands, providing Germany DOW Denmark very early in the game and annexed them.
Should Germany DOW Denmark later in the game, Island and Greenland goes to England and then via event to the USA.
