Thanks for the great patch :)

I especially like the new strait feature - makes navies more important. How about making some more straits? Bosporus (Thrace-Anatolia:)), Dardanelli (Thrace-Smyrna), Messina (Appulia-Messina), Ionia-Hellas, perhaps even Gibraltar (Gibraltar-Tangiers)?

BTW, the new rule on building shipyards means (without base tax raising events) only 158 shipyards total - never again will we see over 1000 warship navies :(

Great job Johan & co., I guess I'll have to play some more EU2 these days, in order to try out these new changes. :D

Not really, because the already existing patch works for this version too (I myself have Strategy First's and I'm playing 1.02 with no problems).

Thanks :)

I agree. Have they not been upped enough since 1.05?

If I remember right, Johan removed a large portion of the tech penalty for coutries that researched them before their historical date. I would prefer the before time penalty to be reinstated, but the 15% increase in cost is a welcome addition IMO. No more racing to get Trade 10 and Infra 10 by 1700. It can still be done, but you won' be able to do it AND keep up with military techs at the same time, which was a big problem.

I have a concern...

Does Kazan ever change to Russian culture? If not, is this historical?

I can't really claim to be 100% history-knowledgable about the collapse of the hordes, but that's a sort of central area to be stuck as muslim/mongol.

Maybe +15% tech costs is a bit off the top?

I may be wrong about the purpose of this measure, but it seems pretty spot on to me. Once playing add very hard I finished all research in 1760. This causes very high inflation if no counter meassures are taken. So to prefent this technology cost needed to be increased by 17% (1819-1760)/(1760-1419)x100%, so 15% seems close enough to me.

No.

When most economically strong player nations are able to maximize trade and infrastructure research by 1720-1760, while keeping up in the land and naval race, in competitive MP, and when you can do much better in SP due to lack of competition, it is time for a serious tech cost hike.

Anyone else seeing an immediate crash in the 1617 scenario? I sent in a Russia save-crash. Crashed right off the bat with Spain as well.
Verified with Spain, Russia, Austria, and Sweden in 1617. Extremely reproducible:

  1. Select Age of Mercantilism
  2. Select Russia (probably any nation will do, actually)
  3. Start game
  4. Press enter to remove the first popup and start time running, do nothing else.
  5. Crash on Jan 2nd. 4/4 times

But buy Victoria now, else we can't continue supporting the games :)

Well, I own Victoria, EU1, and two copies of EU2... but I won't buy HOI unless you make Transylvania Romanian :), especially now that Dobrogea has been given to the Slavs. And this while Banat remains Magyar.

Seriously, other than the Dobrogea heresy, great work Johan!

The MP game I'm running crashes upon load (year is 1692).
So I guess I'll be sticking with the Nov beta for a little bit.

So... where do we get this beta patch?

Thanks
But stick with the Nov26th beta for the moment. The Jan19th2004 is more than a bit unstable.

Absolutely.

I've taken the Ottomans to Trade 10/Infra 8 before 1700 while leading the LT race. I would say that even this added expense is not enough.

25-35% would be much better.
