1945 Battle Scenario (and Scenarios in General)

yeah, as we learned many scenarios is much much too hard for a small team like us to be able to keep up to date. We are focusing on fewer and better balanced this time

With the end date tentatively being pushed to 1948, are there any chances of seeing a V-J Day (6-9 August, 1945) scenario?

I'm guessing we'll be getting 3-4 scenarios come release. The four starting dates I'd like to see are:

1) January 1, 1936
2) September 1, 1939
3) June 4, 1942 or February 2, 1943
4) 9 August, 1945

What dates are you guys in favor of?

A 36, 39, and 42. I think they will only do 3 to start, maybe more. A 44 would be cool (D-day)

Somewhere in the start of this forum i think i remember it being said that there would be less scenarios than HoI3 reason being that they take alot of development time and in HoI3 they werent updated for balance etc. later on. Most players play the '36 scenario so im in favor or only the '36 and '39 (for people who dont want the pre-war.) maybe one at '41 at pearl harbor.

Here is the thing. What you all have named are start dates and not scenarios...
Scenarios refers to for example the spanish civil war, the winter war, desert fox and operation unthinkable. All of these play on a smaller map (not the whole map) and you can only play a few nations.

I also think that most people prefer the earlier start dates. But I would have wished that late 1944 or early 1945 start date would be available as it really tests your skills as Germany. And I thought that at least 1941 start date was also pretty common start date.

The 1944 scenario should be in. I loved playing it for the challenge it provided, and I got the impression it was one of the more popular scenarios also.

I think Podcat is right to prioritize the scenarios most people play in. I've had my fun with a 44 or 45 scenario, but has anyone played a legit game from those dates? All you do is try to survive as Germany, win or lose, and then the game is over. It may even just be a better idea to make some kind of battle scenario since the rest of the world is unimportant. They could always make more startdates with patches/dlc/expansions too, or some such.

I have played as Germany, I managed to survive and conquer the world. I had to play until the end of 1950s though.

33', 39', and 44', but honestly I didn't play the 44 scenario much because by the time I had gotten a good enough grasp of the game to play it I had moved onto Mods that only had the 36' start. If vanilla is good in this one I'll play a lot more different start dates. There were also a lot of really good AAR's that started in 44'.

Good call. 36 scenario for Germany and 39 for other nations, since Germany never got as strong in with 36 starting date as it did with the 39 one.

Me personally I could have done with just 36 and a tutorial/demo scenario (i.e. Bulge or Spanish Civil War). But I guess the MP crowd wants a later date.

Right. The US alone cranked out 22 carriers, 100,000 tanks or SP guns, and 300,000 planes, and they were in the process of cranking out a handful of nuclear bombs, not to mention 500,000 Purple Hearts. They were totally going to quit after suffering a bloody nose. [/sarc]

Even if things got too hot on the ground (a big if), they would have just taken Ripley's advice from Aliens and nuked it from orbit.

On the OP, I agree with podcat. Get 1936 right. That is by far and away the top priority. Make 1939 playable and balanced right. Don't worry about other start dates or scenarios. They can be added by later expansions, DLC's or mods.

What about battlescenarios? i expect them to be scrapped for the greater good of the core game, but whats the take on them. Will you include some?

I like this approach. These two dates are the ones that are most interesting I think.

Actually the 1936 scenario is good for Asia, but it's too early to be balanced in Europe as it give the player too much time to tune his army.

Europe would really benefit from a 1938 scenario where you have some limited time to mold your army.
I really wanted to like the 1938 scenario but the balance is so poor (read: totally absent) that it's just a waste of time. Most countries are still on their 1936 tech template which makes it even easier for the Germans.
