I checked up whats been going on at work tonight, and it looks like there are a whole bunch of problems (Telstra's - but shhh don't say I said)

South Australia in particular has had 2 weeks of frequent drop outs depending on your ADSL exchange. This would explain BB's problems, and the sad thing is that whilst all other ISP's and every ADSL user in the state knows about them, I didn't notice much action to get things done.... o

Well, thats what you get when you're with bigpond - and hence why for the last 5 years I've been with Optus, and have never had a problem with my connection that wasn't fixed by power-cycling my modem.

Good on you Ric..Well my connection is ok....Not perfect and its good you have Civ 4.

Bumble...It doesnt matter who your IP is if you have ADSL its a good chance your line is a Telstra line, hence the problem. My IP provider last night was very helpful and spent an hour with me last night on MSN doing download tests etc. It appears after 5pm my connection drops down. Doing a 10 meg download test from him in Perth took me 210 seconds and took Mike 70 seconds. Did the same test this morning took me 65 seconds.

Funny thing is I rang up Telstra to see if they can check out the line for me they said the IP provider has to log it as a problem. Anyway I dont ahve too much patience and optus would be happy to have me back for free .
Only thing is I am not sure the switch I use to split to other PC's works with cable.

Anyway game on tonight at 9pm.

Were planning a big civ iv game on saturday night at 8pm. So far we have alot of players if they all show. Probably every nation can be played so maybe 16 players.

Do you have MSN or ICQ, so that i know your around at 8pm on saturday. As we will connect direct to my IP for the game. We plan to play from 8pm to midnight. So let me know if you want it and we will have to figure out a way to keep in contact.

Very easy to sign up for hotmail and MSN instant messenger, that way easy to see when your online and we can chat.

Ok well theres nothing I can do about my conn, however this is the Unley exchange and it covers some of the wealthiest clients Telstra would have in Adelaide I'm sure they will show some interest in fixing the problem for this area All these multimillion houses would all have broadband too hehe

P.S I live in a little outer street of Kingswood where the houses are about 1/5 the size, I'm not that rich....but my best friend is, they have a pool

But me joining depends on what happens with this game tonight and on Sunday, as it means if theres a session tonight of HoI and on Sunday I go to bed at 1am, 2am, 1am and I like my sleep. But if theres no HoI today and Sunday, which seems possible with BBs connection probs, I might have a go with Civ. So yeah if theres aggreement on no session today and Sunday then I will probably be on MSN on Saturday.

Also has anybody noticed Civ to be particularly buggy, I have the DVD version and it seems to crash the last one being when I changed to show gridlines.

There is no hoi session sunday, as Joel is away for 3 days. So sunday is canceled. So only tonight for hoi and sat night for civ iv by the looks of it.

Joel is there anything I can do to stop the drops? I actually dmaged my cordless phone a few weeks ago by dropping it on the concrete, would buying a new phone help? My filter is a standard ADSL filter would buying one designed for cordless phones help as well. Is it worth it at all?

Just stick you old cord phone back on when playing if you have it. The fliter only goes one way so check that.

Ric I also have DVD version and no crash for me when using gridlines. I upgradred to 1 Gig ram which made the game much more playable.

9pm EST in vnet everyone, whatever was wrong with my conn appears to have dissapeared. It has just been on for a straight 4 hours now with no drops and I've been on the phone etc

So I get the DVD version of Civilization 4, and it doesn't work on my DVD rom. EVERY OTHER DVD WORKS, except for Civ 4. It works on my other, crappier, computer, but not on this one. I have no luck at all...

Thats the thing about living in a democracy we are entitled to our own oponions and views. Its when others try to impart their views upon others by using violence which annoys me.
I cant believe anyone would think that Australia is anything like a Fascist state. We have a govenor who can sack the prime minister just like old gough.

Back onto the game...well Next session is for Tuesday 7pm to replace Fridays session which has been cancelled. I really think we should consider using 1.3 version of the game and I would like everyones oponion. Restarting now would not waste too much time for the benefits of the patch.

I dunno sometimes I enjoy talking politics with you guys with me and Bumble we have some sort of balance with left wing - right wing, just need to keep level head on everybodies part. But anyway the game well we haven't got a year into it and some of the changes look very useful especially removing the problem with Belgium retaining territory (although I personally don't like the "Lowered the Quality of Italy's Army" but hey UK will have even less MP).

So I'll say yes, until someone declares that they will leave if we upgrade. Then it'll be a no.

In News in Italy the rebellious province of Albania was returned to the Italian family where it should be. All talk of it being some sort of "war" or "invasion" or "being conquered for no good reason" is propaganda by individuals who are completely out of touch with reality and need to be sent to some sort of institution.

Edit: Whoops forgot about Sunday game, so it really depends on whether old games can be played with the new patch.

I vote with Ric...we played nine months relatively bug free gaming time. We could make that up in a decent 4 hour session wit h patch 1.3.

I also see Naval bombers atatck has been reduced by 3........

Larger nations in the same alliance will now take control over provinces as they invade allies occupied overseas territories, to maintain coherent supplied fronts(this fixes the supply issues esepcially for the UK)

I vote for restarting with 1.3, though the sunday game save wont work with it. So you will need 2 installs.

Also my conn is terrible this morning dropping every few seconds...Mike if its not better by tonight I will have to miss the CIV 4 game

Well if yous want to upgrade to 1.3 we have to do so before Tuesday as that is the next session.

Everyone copy their current 1.2 version into another folder and rename it and create a shortcut.

Then upgrade and it should upgrade the original you just copied. Keep the Copied version to finish the 1.2 game for Sundays.
