No, this version of the mod has not yet made compatible with Doomsday, but if you look in this forum you will find a thread about the Doomsday version where version 0.1 has been made compatible, and I am sure 0.2 will be converted be someone…

Edit: Link to Doomsday thread: Doomsday Version

As for Canada. No, it is not an independent state and here is the reason why it is not an independent country:

StephenT said:
It's been brought up once or twice, yes...

The British Dominions didn't gain independence until the Statute of Westminster. In 1914 they had effective local autonomy in domestic matters, but their foreign policy was completely controlled from London. (The most famous example of this is that in 1939, each Dominion declared war on Germany separately... and Canada waited a week just to make a point. :) In 1914 Asquith's government declared war and that decision automatically brought the entire Empire in too.)

Even more importantly, the Dominion forces were fully integrated into the Empire's army. The ANZAC and the Canadian Corps weren't treated as allies, they were treated as part of the British Army. I'd also add that for the most part, they regarded themselves as British soldiers who happened to come from Australia or Canada, rather than primarily as Australians or Canadians. Australian nationalism in particular came about largely because of WW1, and Gallipoli in particular - it didn't precede it.

In short, if we make Canada or Australia independent in 1914, we should probably also make Bavaria, Saxony, Poland, Finland, Hungary and even California and Texas independent too, since all of those states enjoyed equal or more autonomy from their own central governments...

Well that too me is not fair but i guess it has to be donefor the gameplay. But seeing in 1867 canada declared independece from britain but i do agree that the foreigne polocy was controlled by britain but Canada was able to make its own decisions especially after Vimmy when Curie came into it and became the first canadian comander of the army adn was not afraid to go against the british Generals. Anyway whats even worse is that ic ant play this until some1 comes along and makes it compatable, hopfully soon.

I have a problem with manual firing of the events, either yours or new ones, written by me. I tried to fire a 62013 event but it didn't fire, then I tried and took the original event that gives BP from HOI2 and changed event# to some unused (123321) and pasted it into an event file. But I can't fire it no matter if I'd put it into extra.txt, randomevents.txt or austrohungary.txt (I'm playing as AO).
Any clues?

That also goes for the Australians too -- there is still the belief in the UK that it was Haig and Rawlinson  .....who were responsible for the "August 8th Black Day" comment by the Germans (the start of the collapse) -- in fact it was Monash's plan.

With the Canadians (under Currie) on the flank, it was the Dominion leadership (with AST, CAN some US and British units in the ORBAT) that broke the Hindenburg line.

Additionally, I trust that the unit statistics (attack, defence etc) of the Dominion troops are truly reflected because of the following:
1. They were volunteers -- not drafted.
2. They were physically tough -- even after the long years of war.
3. They were used a "shock troops" by the British High Command, and they succeeded when led into battle with good commanders.

Is this in fact the case????

If not then I am happy to refer you on to historical references.......that will prove my point!!

I want to play this mod, but with 5 major stages of loading, and lots of minor ones -- I wonder -- some of the other mods have *exe autoloaders -- can anyone link up with one of the other mods (HSR for e.g) -- they may be willing to help -- so it becomes a more simple method.

Cheers

No, no one here quite believes that it was the sole achievement of Haig or Rawlinson - but I have no one who is under the impression that Monash planned the operation on his own.

One has to give some credit to Rawlinson, at least :p He amended Monash's original plan by increasing the number of tanks from 90 to 162 and added whippet tanks and armoured cars; he increased the frontage of the operation from 6,000 yards to 10,000 - and because this necessitated one division to cross a canal, he brought in lifebelts, rafts, ladders and collapsible boats.

Furthermore - and this is most important - Rawlinson regarded the artillery provisions of the original plan to be insufficient, and increased the scope of their work by ensuring that 27.5 million pounds of shell would be fired instead of 12.7 million. We all know Monash was a great commander, but he did ultimately only command a corps - Rawlinson was not twiddling his thumbs at HQ while Monash did all the work. ;)

The Dominion divisions and the best British divisions are represented as Guards. :)

As for Canada. No, it is not an independent state and here is the reason why it is not an independent country:

Further to my last ---- The information provided by Stephen T is not true.

Australians were NOT, read NOT treated as an integral part of the British Army..... and here is why:

http://www.shotatdawn.org.uk/page38.html

Many Dominion troops were shot for desertion, Canadians, South Africans and New Zealanders ---- but not one Australian soldier/volunteer was treated in such a manner.
The history is interesting and dates back to the Boer War to the "Breaker" Morant incident....after this, the Australian Govt declared that only Australian courts-martial and at the approval of the Australian Governor-General would any disciplinary action be legally acceptable.

For those who think that the Dominions simply and blindly followed the British High Command rules and regulations -- you need to get into the history books -- forget the "belief" and "certainty" that your historical references have accurately recorded that the Dominions were merely an extension of British Policy -- such beliefs are folly.

I find it very interesting that there have been numerous articles about the pardoning of World War I deserters in articles such as this:

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20060815.wsoldiers15/BNStory/National/

I am especially disgusted with the comments by the Canadian, Cliff Chaderton,Chairman of Canada's National Council of Veteran Associations, and his reported comments:

"Cliff Chadderton, chairman of Canada's National Council of Veteran Associations, says that while executing a soldier for desertion “sounds very brutal in today's world,” it was critical for military leaders to ensure soldiers were prepared to sacrifice their lives for their fellow soldiers.

Deserters, he said, were “bad role models for other troops.”

“How can you expect other troops to go on sacrificing their lives if they knew they could get out of it, and then get a pardon?” he asked.

“I think it's wrong to pardon them, because they deserved what they got,” Mr. Chadderton said."

What a dickhead.....

Cheers

Could you please move this UK Dominions debate into some other thread, preferably open a new one in 1914 mod subforum. This thread is for 1914 0.2 issues, problems and game experiences only

If they were not treated as an integral part of the British Army, then why were the Dominion Prime Ministers so insistent at the Imperial War Cabinet in Spring 1917 that they be allowed the means of direct communication to their commanders without having to rely on the British government? Why did they protest to Lloyd George that they were badly informed about the status of their units serving in the BEF? :)

The fact is that they were units of the British Army and were under the same chain of command. Irrespective of their attitudes to disciplinary matters - which really is quite inconsequential in a modification such as this that stresses grand strategy - they were part of the same body. There is no case here for representing the Dominions as separate entities, and therefore, in complete control of their own units.

Don't want to be annoying but I didn't get 0.1 when it was available and now I can't find the link.

Maybe including every necessary file in every new release would be a little less confusing.
