Given that Hearts of Iron starts in 1936 and games can diverge very much from IRL even if you play Germany to the letter historically, might not the start of Victoria in 1835 really ensure that a lot of major late-19th century events and WWI might not happen at all. Given that the AI has a 5% chance of taking an ahistorical option when offered, all it could take is one ahistorical AI choice in a major power to create a whole chain of events that could lead to some very different worlds from what actualy existed by 1914. Personally I think that will be very cool as I really like playing ahistorical games in HoI but I think there may be a lot of people who might just have an aneurism if WWI or the US Civil War doesn't fire on schedule.
Perhaps I am being too pessimistic and Paradox can resolve that potential in the AI to go ahistorical in a long duree game, but I think I'll build a bunker for when the griping hits once the game is released. "Why did the US Civil War start in 1849".."Why didn't WWI break out" "Why can't Prussia unify Germany". I can already hear the moaning.
