1419-1820?

Does anyone have a clue why the years 1419 to 1820 were chosen? A More logical choice(for me anyway) would be 1452 to (any date from 1848 to 1870). This way they could still have Byzatine and plenty of England and Burgandy on the continent, plus later on have the Revolts of 1848, and the possibly the American civil war(if extended to 1865).

I can't think of a good, solid reason for 1419/1420 (just paged through some reference books and couldn't find much except for the beginnings of the Hussite rebellion in Bohemia). The only thing I can think of is that you don't want to go back further than 1417, or you will have to get involved in the Great Schism of the Western Church, which to do correctly would require major modifications to the game engine. You don't want to go too much further forward, or the English position in France could become a problem (by 1419, they had only retaken Normandy - much later and everything north of the Loire is English)

That doesn't explain the 1419 beginning, though. If the starting date were to be dependent on the appearance of Jeanne la Pucelle, the game would begin in 1428.

Um, guys, I think the press release says it all:

The marketing guys get paid a lot of money to write this stuff. The least we can do is read it.

They chose 1820 as end date, probably because after this date, the industrial revolution was really starting and there was more & more use for the steam engine wich really changed the naval battle (and was changing the way troops were carried over to the battlefield).

1815 or 1830 would be the better dates here, IMHO. 1815 for obvious reasons - the Council of Vienna, 1830 because it was a year of revolutions - the downfall of the Bourbon government in France, the declaration of Belgian independence. 1820 is just kind of a nothing year, IMHO.

If I had to guess I would say 1419 = Hussite wars, 1820=start of disintergration of Spanish Empire in South America (very difficult to model unless you start adding a dozen more revolters)
