Just wondering about this. I'm trying to kill a nephew so i can inherit lands that should be mine, and I have people backing my plot. The overall plot power is 1400%, yet it keeps failing over and over. Why is that? I would've thought with numbers that high, it should succeed without a hitch!

Is this a bug, or is there some secret mechanic that keeps my assassinations failing repeatedly? (hopefully what I'm saying makes some sense!)

Yea my half uncle in law was leading a plot against me I had like 400% plot power, over a year there were about 10 attempts on his life until the situation was resolved. It is going to happen sometimes, he just real lucky.

There was a bug in an earlier verson which showed the whole value of the plot power rather then the percentage. It could be back agian which would mean that 1401% is actually 14.01% chance.

I'm not really so sure, but I have suspected there is something wrong with assassination plots since the 1.07 patch. Whenever I get a really high plot power for my assassination I do get a LOT of attempts, but they almost always fail even if my intrigue is high and the target's is very low. For example, I had 450% plot power in a game not long ago and it took 40 attempts to kill him. This has happened in multiple games and I guess it could just be really bad luck, but I've never succeeded in a reasonable amount of attempts when I have high plot power, but lower (but still moderately high) works fine.

I think you will find that there are traits that allow people to not fall for some plots. If your fellow plotters use the wrong plot it increases the chance of failure, but the right one and dead.

90% chance to Gluttonous, 50% chance with Temperate, 33% chance if they are Paranoid and 75% chance otherwise to poison someones wine.

Plot power does not increase chance of success only chance of triggering a plot.

Does it matter about getting more support once you reach the 100% mark or does it treat anything after that, such as 1401%, as 100% regardless?

Over 200% increases your chances to maximum to get a plot to occur. The higher the contribution the greater the chance also. So a courtier with 150% contribution has more chance to trigger then a 20% contributor.

Check how good his spymaster is and how high intrigue he has, im not sure if thats taken in to effect when you plot kill people i just feel like when people i try to plot kill have good spymasters i fail more often then if they have a bad.

Not completely, it still happens on very rare occasions. But you the issue of failing the plot when they die is fixed. :)

Alas, I'm seeing this in 50% of cases at the moment. It seems to be if another plotter accepts the invite to the plot at the same moment an attempt is triggered, I then get a sudden spam of 3 or 4 attempts with multiple ones succeeding, i.e. he drinks the wine near the grassy knoll after falling off the balcony, at least he's dead, but it's all a bit Mary Queen of Scots...

"Aaarggh ow aarggh crash bump wwaargh bang splat wooo."

"I think she's dead!"

"No I'm not!"

"Aaarggh ow aarggh crash bump wwaargh bang splat wooo."

"Phew."

"Aaarggh ow aarggh crash bump wwaargh bang splat wooo."

Why cant we refuse a plot event? We can deny almost everything except assassination attempts.
If I want to assassinate some kid I don't want them to hire a hunter because he almost always chickens out and reveals the plot. I would much rather wait for an other plot event than to have a bad one fail. This would also solve the multiple plots firing at the same time since you can refuse the additional ones.

It has been suggested previously, and would be nice to have a "no thats a terrible idea" option.
