Yeah i had bungeling bay, played it alot. actully looks alot better then SC, because SC was just the bungeling bay editor he used to make Bungeling Bay with.
Will Wright says the little boats actually collect resources in Bungling bay and then take them to ports on the islands for the factories to use. And the amount of resources they collect is how many jets, anti aircraft, tanks, ect the bungling empire can build... and its battleship its making.
I never knew that till recently, game has a simple little economy. was never mentioned in the manual or anything. There is a presentation somewhere that will wright gave about it.

Anyway spent first half of my childhood on a commodore 64

raid_on_bungeling_bay_05.gif

Bungling Bay (commodore 64) the father of sim city.

Yeah for me R.O.B.B was one of the real classics of that era....along with a host of others. Yeah I never knew about that economy back then but did hear about it recently, it does make sense too because even back then I did notice if you spent time taking out a lot of the ships early on it seemed to slow down the development on each island, especially stuff like multiple AA guns and when they start firing missiles. Also if you go straight to knocking out the factories and ignore everything else you find they very quickly beef up and concentrate on the remaining islands, probably all the ships/economy gets concentrated on whats left.

Oh wow, i was 9 when i started playing Simcity 2000. It was 1994. Everything in life was adventure and still a mystery. Being curious and all.. You'all know what i mean :). Building treehouses, underground huts.. heavy short emotion swings (cry about nothing and then laugh one minute later)Today's life is boring, flattened and repetitive. Being an adult is .. yea.. And i figured out that Knowing less = happy face. Let everything be a mystery. Mystery is fun. I have come to a point that I no longer wish to know the mystery of the universe. Because once i know that mystery... life will be even more boring :p.

I think the mystery of life is the mystery of being that mystery.

Hmm, I think I was already well into my 40's when SC4 was released.

It will be interesting to see if a community develops around Skylines as vast as has developed around SC4. I really haven't seen as vast a community develop to mod games as was created around Simcity 4 and think that's entirely what will be necessary to develop around Skylines if we are to remember it 12 years down the road as being one of the greats.

You're clearly not old enough to realize forced retirement is a *bad* thing. Don't worry, with time, that will change. ;)

We don't have forced retirement here, rather we can't get a pension until 65.. maybe 70 for me if our bastard politicians have their way. We do have a great superannuation setup though so depending on how you've done in life you can retire alot younger.

You're very lucky if your contract doesn't state at which age you must retire. Mine does. :(

And trust me - you don't want to retire young!
Working from 25 -65 = 40 years
Living from 65 - 95 = 30 years.

That means, if you get to be 95 years old, you would need to save enough money over 40 years to sustain you over another 30 years. Add to that inflation that constantly reduces the value of your savings, and the picture becomes quite dismal! Most people are not sufficiently prepared for retirement. the longer you can work, the longer you can save for retirement, and the better off you'll be.

I'm 36 now, and - judging by how time goes by faster and faster the older you get, 65 is looming ominously on the horizon.

Outside of Europe I don't think it's very common to have open-ended contracts in the private sector - e.g. usually contracts are for only a few years for junior staff (say, less than 30) and maybe for 5-10 years for senior staff. Most have some renewal clause in them, but certainly not the lifetime contracts that were common 30 years ago...

95 is pretty old, life expectancy in the US is less than 80 (lower than most of the developed world).

its 78.74 compared to UK 81.5, and 83.1 in japan(longest life expectancy in the world) Not a huge difference. These are averages, so unless your completely unhealthy or live in abject poverty you have a good chance of reaching 90 in most country's including the united states.

The only game modding community I'm familiar with that's as vast and prolific as the SimCity 4 modders are the people who mod Sims 2 and 3.

I remember back then I had no idea how to make income in SimCity 4, so I kept taking out loans since I thought it was free instant money. You can guess how that turned out  .

I installed it again a few years ago, and even tried out the mods. Not only is it much better, but I've been playing it a lot more than I did back then.
I've yet to see another better city-building game since. Hopefully, that will change soon.
