Besides building junk units, the minor AI can also build too much good stuff. I have reproduced the following effect in two recent games:

While playing as human USA and giving all AI + 20% IC, MP, and RES, I started giving Philippines +5 Energy and +1 Oil for free per day starting early JAN 1936 thru a trade.

In both cases, by DEC 1941, Philippines had 13 vanilla INF!

Somehow, this does not seem right.

This is one of those things never seen in a hands off game of course and it can be avoided by the USA not giving them the free resources, but it still needs to be fixed by something other than "house rules".

Why not, simply, put 2 options:

1. assume military control, and an minor allies can build junk as ever, the human should be able to use it well.
2. assume TOTAL control of military/economic/trade (no intelligence/diplomacy/tech). This operation will add a subtab in trade/production for manage the minor allies stuff (one subtab for each minor allies, identified by the flag).
However diplomacy, intelligence and research won't directly controlled.

Imo is simpler and better.

I haven't changed it, but it's possible there is some problem with it.

I'm afraid I'm going to be "out of the loop" for a few weeks from now, but hopefully Radu or wyk1NG will see this and check it.

Not really - it costs 2, but the time needed has halved. You can build as you did before, but must do it a bit differently. The new time does make building Infra during wartime to increase supply to important sectors a more reasonable proposition, though.
Thanks, that's a good news!

This is a judgement issue, of course, but I would say that USSR was more "Revolutionary Pioneering" up until around Trotsky's death - after that the war fatigue of the civil wars and the (growing) paranoia of Stalin made it much more "Defensive" in outlook. The main reason for the grabbing of land after WW2 was as "buffer states" to protect a Russian heartland that, naturally given her geographical position, tends to feel threatened on all sides. Japan, China, British India, the Middle East and Europe (first increasingly fascist/nazi and then American) are not a set of neighbours that would make me feel relaxed and at ease, either, I have to say!

Yes, your idea concerning Trotsky is right - until his death the "revolutionary" approach was dominant. BUT. Nothing really changed after his death.
What I am talking about?
Not so many people that live outside Russian Federation know that there is a socialist party that does not position itself as an ally of CPRF {Communist party of Russian Federation} - the main and dominant communist party in modern Russia. The members of this party are calling upon russian population for the uprising against the government. But what is most interesting - they don't care about the consequences. They say "we need revolution at any COST". They call themselves "Neotrotskists".
That is main difference between Trotskiy's and Stalin revolutionary approach - Trotskiy didn't cared about anything - he needed revolution, while Stalin was REALIST to his fingertips. He knew that the world revolution is impossible without strong USSR - the "revolution outpost" in capitalist world.
So after Trotskiy's death Stalin carried much more caution policy - but it never was a defence policy. The only time when he was forced to abandon it was the Great Patriotic War - this was the time, when names of Suvorov, Alexander Nevsky and Dimitry Donskoy was again "legalized". The persecutions against the Orthodox Church stopped. It was the time of Parochial policy - Stalin understood that it's only way to unite the people of Soviet Union for the war against Nazism.
So Revolutionary Pioneering and Parochial World View was the main and ONLY USSR national ideas from 1936 up to 1952.

Has anyone did testing to see what happens between AI Germany and SU? Who wins most of the time, and by which year?

106B1 was 90% Sovjet victory within years 1944-48 depending on D-Day

It is my observation after a number of games with the newest patch that AI Germany seems to have a big problem in defending its southern boarder (Italy) from USA invasion. AI Germany just does not understand that 50 US divisions pouring thru Italy must be met with a redeployment of considerable force from the Russian front.

In reality, Germany could always stop any march up the Italian boot if it wanted to. The German AI response to the initian invasion of Italy (Naples/Anzio) is much too slow and in no time US forces can be pouring into Austria and Hungary.

This still reminds me of the old computer chess programs from 35 years ago where the AI always understand how to attack but never how to defend.

Let me say however that you all are making much progress. I am merely pointing out some further areas for improvement.

A note on the Japanese Pacific -- you all need to make AI Japan understand that it really needs to position more that one garrison division on those Pacific Islands within strat bombing range of the Japanese homeland.

when playing Japan, even while being at war with USSR and Allies, and so tieing up soviet forces in Asia and USA forces all over south America... Germany gets crushed mostly thanks to Air Power.

I'm going to say it here like I said it in the world in flames mod back in the day... Germany need more of a chance to win. If Germany fails hard even with a player Japan tieing up huge portions of soviet/allied forces, then why bother to play an allied nation?

The way I see it, the only point of playing allied is trying to beat the germans bad before the soviets and have a larger free world than there was in reality. That, or pwning the soviets completely in a third world war as well. Germany had 0 chance to win in RL IMO, so I don´t really care AI Germany always loses, as long as it is by 1944-46, and not 1942.

Just found a new bug - Soviet province named "Armavir" has spelling error in the game - "Armavil". "Armavir" is the right spelling.

By the way - there is a strange resource disbalance in the game - when playing as SU in 1936, I noticed that Energy income {amount of Energy produced} is 580 only - while the German income is 950.
Even after HUGE IC and INFRA buildup, in 1940 the income is 730, while German is 1350.
I browsed through some economic articles and found out that SU produced 48,3 billion kilowatt-hours in 1940, while Germany and Austria together produced 52 billion kilowatt-hours in 1941.
In the game it would be 1200-1250 Energy for SU and 1350 for the Germany.

The Energy values are taken from the production of coal and other energy sources, not the USED amount of energy sources.
Used electricity is more related to the usage of IC represented in game.
