Do you know the total ships involved in the Normandy D-Day invasion, combining ALL the allied ships from each country that took part? I just saw it last week on the History Channel, but I can't remember....It was a LOT more than that though.

Well destroyer groups, sub groups, and transport groups are all more than one ship. Running into all these ship in the middle of teh Atlantic was kind of funny though - I was wondering why the British fleet wasn't hanging around the UK, Malta, or India. The whole time they actually were escorting the Kon Tiki. ;)

I believe there was 800+ allied vessels involved in D-day. That includes landing craft though, which I guess are included as in transport groups in HoI?

As for running into 102 ships, Id guess half that or even more would be transports. Ive seen germany produce 80+ transports in 1.03, when invading the english isles. the UK I would expect to produce even more ships.

Well according to the timeline inside the manual (gee who would've thought about looking in there) there were well over 7,000 allied ships taking part in the entire Operation Overlord invasion. Over 176,000 troops were landed.

I remember seeing about how they even setup a huge deap-sea dock for the ships so they could supply / load up etc.

I have seen every value from 2000-5000 ships, probably based on whether you count larger landing craft as ships. The large floating harbors, actually two, were called Mulberrys. Nice to get a chance to use a history degree every now and then. I have also seen weird fleet dispositions in the game. However, a fleet of over 100 would scare the heck out of me since all of my fleet are generally 12 units or less so as not to overwhelm the admirals. Rich

picture of mulberry at site above.
