Pretty much what the title says. Is there a way to tell?

Screenshot from 2020-06-12 13-40-39.png

Particular bragging points:

  1. Did the whole thing in a very "clean" way: not once did I use any exploits, Order 66, paradropping on VPs and the like. Just good old fighting the wars well...heck, I even did the Warsaw uprising by actually straight up supporting the resistance until it fired. Ask me if you any questions on the particular achievements!
  2. Took just under 1k hours on a VERY slow computer.
  3. Left the British WC for the very end, so as to have an extra challenge with the LaR resistance system.

CK2 for sure. Hugo-slavia and Montezuma were also pretty tough I think. I also remember I had a very hard time with Little Entente, but that was way back when I was still relatively new to the game.

I also think that the Macau one and the Bearer or Artillery were waaaaay easier than they seemed, I don't know what the big fuss about them is. I would rate them as medium at most.

Any advice for the Austria-Hungary one and Revenge of the Montezuma?

For the Austria-Hungary, the difficult thing is to get the stuff in both the Allies and the Axis majors. So what I did was just let the Germans have Sudeten and help them beat the Allies to get the required states from them, and then just waited for teh Germans to declare on the Soviets and get deep into their territory before stabbing them in the back.

For Montezuma, I just beelined the Comintern foci and gobbled up the entirety of South America except for Brazil...that allowed me to get a couple of full armies of 40-width infantry and immediately go for the US...remember - even with the entirety of South America under your control, you're still racing against time and the US will outproduce you the longer you wait! The only real reason to wage all these wars is to get their guns once all these nations capitulate (extremely cost-effective!), not to build an industrial base for the long term.

I have all of them too, I can't wait for the next achievements.

I'm waiting for tech tree additions, and new focus trees in order to play. I think a lot of things, particularly mid-late game have lost their charm. A campaign is decided by 1941 and there needs to be more things.

Congrats! What was your approach for CK2 and how many attempts were necessary? I haven't done it yet.

Macau was a really fun achievement, for me. I also found the Byzantium achievement near impossible in the current game version.

And Congrats to you, too, @Mr_Dimento!

Honestly, I do not know how you guys got 100% of the achievements. Iron mode forces you to live with all the quirks of the game. Your patience and pain threshold are far superior to my own. PDX should make an award for such successes. At the least, an acclimation could be put under your portrait in the forums.

Salute!

Congrats! What was your approach for CK2 and how many attempts were necessary? I haven't done it yet.

CK2 is actually the reason I accomplished the whole thing...I tried it, gave up on the game in frustration, came back to it after a new patch only to give up again...until finally I've done it in 1.8.2 and thought "Hey, if I could do CK2, surely I can do every single other one!"

So the breakthrough came after I realized one simple thing: Do NOT fight anyone in Africa. You might be able to hold you line or get some useless clay, but no amount of empty tiles there will bring you any closer to the victory. And the whole thing is a race against time!

With that in mind, here's the gist of what I did:

1. Rush communism via civil war. You need it by summer 1936 or everything else isn't going to work.
2. After that, wait for SCW and immediately justify on the Nationalists.
3. Join the war as soon as you can and the Republicans will join your faction (you can use your focus to send some volunteers there to help them survive until then).
4. While fighting the Nationalists, starting preparing a coup in France. Make sure it fires in Nord pas de Calais, as you only need to capture Paris and this province has the closest tiles to the capital.
5. When their civil war starts, the French Commune will also join your faction.
6. Next, kill Portugal attacking from Spain. The tricky part is that their will inevitably call the French, who will easily be able to get higher warscore than you with their superior army...Don't allow that. Fight well, attack over the rivers and take occupations, maybe even try a naval invasion. The thing is that the French love themselves some African colonies and they will take both Angola and Mozabique if given a chance.
7. After that, justify on the British and invade. The combined Spanish and French navy should keep the RN busy enough for whatever the fleet you would be able to scrape together to allow for a landing. Nevertheless, invest in it early on (take your naval focus while you wait for communism to tick up), otherwise even the Portuguese shipyards wouldn't allow you to build enough on time. The British AI will send their whole army to Africa where you will just need a few cheap infantry units to slow them down in the mountains while you run wild in their home.
8. Leave Belgium for last. You wouldn't even need to risk the French involvement like with Portugal, and just naval invade from the UK.

I did the whole thing on historical sometime in 1939 before WW2. I think the timing is crucial as the Axis might throw all kinds of wrenches in the plan above.

Now, that was in 1.8.2. I think the current version will make it a little more complicated but independent of RNG. Complication comes from the new coup mechanics which now require quite a significant investment for a country as small as South Africa. On the other hand, the RNG element in my strategy came from the SCW timing: if it fired too early, it might be over before you could save the Republicans. If it fired too late, you might not be able to do everything before WW2. Ideally, you wanted it to fire around Q3 1936, and deviation from that increased the difficulty of the whole thing...but now this is exactly when it fires reliably.

It's the same thing that anyone who's done a WC in Europa Universalis will tell you...the biggest challenge is the mental toll it takes on you.

You will inevitably get into situations where a successful run is going to be ruined in the end because of minor hiccups like (these are true examples!) you forgot you shouldn't have joined Axis as Manchukuo before conquering everyone, or you vassalized the US as the communist UK before clicking on the focus (which was required for the achievement but was not available any more).

There is also an out-of-sync issue with Steam on bad internet that sometimes makes it think you've edited your save and can't have the achievements any more. I used to play a lot on long-haul flights and this has ruined several successful campaigns for me.

And finally (at least for me) there was always that lingering temptation to just use Order 66 or some other well-known exploit to have an easy way out of a difficult situation...

All these things really added up to make me want to throw my computer into the wall more than any other game ever has. But when I got to about 70-80 achievements and if started to feel like the home stretch, the whole thing became so much easier.

See, the Steam achievement page shows the % of players who have done every individual achievement...but I still can't figure out how to tell how many players have done all of them.
This page shows you there are at least 18 of them, but that's not all of them, because it can't access non-public profiles:

Steam may provide absolute numbers to the game developers via its reporting tools - I don't know.

Follow-up to my previous post. I realized that there is no way a site like completionist.me would be able to crawl and scrape all of the 1 billion+ Steam user profiles. Upon further inspection, it appears that the tracking it performs is on a voluntary basis - that is, users register to that site in order to have their achievements tracked. The site says there are 4,900 HOI 4 players who are registered. Out of those, 18 have 100% HOI 4 achievements.

We can't use these numbers to extrapolate with the total number of HOI 4 players, because those 4,900 HOI 4 completionist.me players are 'achievement hunters', not representative of the overall HOI 4 player base.

Sorry for the error.

Well done, I applaud your tenacity. I am on the other side of the spectrum. Have never done a single achievement despite about 3000 hours in HOI4 alone, and probably won't unless we get actual tangible rewards. Eye candy doesn't count. The game still needs too much help via mods and the control panel for me to lock myself into Ironman.
