In my current game it is 1419, and I haven't had a slider move for a long time, and so I checked when it would come, and it wasn't until 1428. Whilst my last slider move was in 1409, just before I changed governments. I went back to my save at the time of this slider change, and made the same government change, resulting in the same 1428 date as my next slider move.

Is this a bug, a new feature in HttT, or has it always been in the game and I just hadn't noticed?

If I make the change before I make the slider move, then I lose my ability to make the slider move, and that slider move date is shifted until 1419.

I can see why they might do this, it seems justified, just unexpected. But perhaps I just never payed enough attention before.

Government changing has counted as a slider movement since at least Napoleon's Ambition, if not further back.

You mean it's counted as some kind of delayed slider move? So if you change government it counts as the next slider move? I can't say that I have noticed it before but perhaps it's like that.. I have always assumed that government change has only reset the timer..

GAGA: That's not quite what Beamed said. And it wouldn't explain what happened in Maldenics case either. He got an extra 9 years waiting time.

Changing gov't type has always reset the slider move counter. Perhaps he also chose a type with an inferior efficiency.

I can confirm that regime change reset the countdown of the slider move in IN 3.1; nothing new here. (and I got owned twice in my last game...)

If you changed governments right after a slider move nothing should really happen, since your timer is already going to be at maximum (and thus resetting it does nothing). However, if you change to a less efficient government type your slider moves take longer. So if you went from a noble republic to a despotic monarchy, your slider moves would take longer.

I have had this problem too; it is not that slider cooldown has been reset, but that you have an extra ten years of waiting, so instead of 10 years I had to wait 20 years for the next slider move. I changed from Feudal Monarchy to Administrative Monarchy.

I think this has been fixed in HTTT, at least I was able to change government and then centralization in the Demo. Had to do it the other way around with IN.

In IN, government change RESETS the timer to change policy. In HTTT, it RESETS and ADDS time. So early on, changing to Despotic Monarchy means you'll have to wait about 20 years for the next policy change. I have no idea why they did this. Seems quite troublesome to me.

Actually, working like that would make perfect sense (given that it doesn't reset the timer, as well as adding it's own time). Stops you from needing to wait till a slider move to change governments to do it efficiently.

My experience is mixed. Going from Feudal -> Despotic (the "primitive" direction I guess), will not count as a slider move if I have one available. If I did not have one available it would add time to the slider cooldown. Neither of this happened in IN for me. However, when I went from Noble Republic -> Administrative Republic (the "advanced" direction) I couldn't avoid the double cooldown. I didn't investigate more than that though.
