The third king - Cecasander
1519-1539
Okay, now, where here we? Right, 1519!
Well, 1519 was a rather important year for European history, as it was the year Charles V (or Carlos or Karl or whatever - he's know as Karl I in Austria) assended the throne and began his lengthy reign. He decided to rule his mighty Habsburg empire from Innsbruck, and thus became my new HoS as well as Spain's (although he already was). The next year I somehow ended up in a war against Genua and Savoy, who are buddies since the dawn of time. After a long but nearly unchallenged siege Genua fell. Meanwhile, my Italian army had taken Genua's holding in Siena and joined the grand army on their way to Piemonte.
Ferdinand on his way to (un)certain victory
The battle between Savoy and Genuan refugees was a close call, but won in my commander (and brother) Ferdinand's favor. This victory convinced the Genuans that I had become the ruling force in Italy, and offered me Siena and a hand fun of coins. That was all wanted from them anyway, so I accepted.
Now, for my next trick I require the assistance of I volunteer... I mean a powerful ally. Hey, that's handy, I'm France's overlord already. Why not ask him to join my alliance? So I did. Don't think I didn't try before, but I think they weren't used to the idea of being ruled by Germans yet (as they're French, I can understand their point of view). But now they were, and they gladly joined me in my next war against Venice and Modena in 1522. My new ally started besieging the city of Venice, while my dear Ferdinand took Mantua from the Modenans and then marched off to Romagna.
Another future victory for Ferdinand
The pope is an idiot. When I declared war on Venice (I had a casus belli as he boycotted me), the Papal states dishonored his alliance with Venice and Modena, saving his face. About a month later, though, he rejoined and entered the war as well. Feeling pitty for this apparently confused pope, I just fended off his puny attacks and left him alone. After taking Romagna I took Mantua and also brought the Modenans under Austrian lordship. Earlier France has renounced it's claims Italy, and although Spain would later get Milan as a vassal, it was once again proven who was the real power in Italy.
Happy years past. Then the Turk came along and defeated Hungary at Mohacs, bringing the whole Magyar kingdom under Ottoman overlordship. Hey, I am supposed to rule Hungary! Needless to say, I objected to the Ottoman reign and declared war on Hungary as soon as humanly possible. Austrian, French and Bohemians moved into Hungary and quickly took the western half of the country. Pest was retaken though, and soon Hungary's leader, one Janos Szapolya, began to resist me. Sadly for poor Janos, his country's military tech was about half that of mine.
Also, sending an all-infantry army against a well balanced army, on a plain, on the offence, while you're decendents of the once fierce Magyar horsemen might not be a smart move either
The Ottomans were smart/foolish enough to defend their claim and let the Hungarians fight on their own. Bosnia - not involved with either me but vassals of the Otto's, decided to use the opportunity to take Dalmatia from the Hungarians. Sadly this ment I also had to fight them as well, in order to gain full victory over the Hungarians. Then my foolishness got the better of me and I wanted to get more. So I took Bosnia as well, forceannexed them and then released them again, this time as my ally. This was the most stupid thing I have done, as that crashed my BB as well as foreign relations (though that was repairable). Not to mention that declaring war on them also costed me 3 stab.
The good news is I gained total victory over Hungary and claimed what was rightfully mine (and Dalmatia, which was not), leaving it to the size of the city of Pest. So there I was, with -3 stability, a badboy of 26.6 and some lowered foreign relations. And I only had 10 years left, and so much to do!
Austria in 1529. Savoy owns Milan now. Don't know when that happened...
I left sorry for the next king to enter with such stats, so I spend the whole next decade doing nothing. Absolutely nothing. Okay, nearly absolutely nothing. I managed to get Modena into my alliance (and as it had been a vassal for over 10 years, could be annexed - hint for next king; connection with Italian holdings can be achieved pretty easy that way!). I attempted to convert Würtemberg and Ansbach back to the Mother Church after becomming evil heretics. And I fought an occasional rebel army. Aso, somehow I missed getting Bohemia. Damn! well, that's the next player's concern also. Eventually I managed to get my stability up again, lowered my bb for about 8 points and slightly improved my economic situation. I even got an conquestador (or whatever they're called) and built him a boat, but as neither Spain or Portugal wanted to trade maps, I still got no use for him and his simply died.
Here's my final situation:
A
ll is quiet in Austria again
The final political map. Nothing changed for me after 1529
Final situation. I tried focussing on innovation, as I love those random invention events! Also (as of such) I have 14 land, which makes me the most advanced, military.
