Is Ondoval out of the game?:( Too bad I would like to trade those defected provinces to something more usefull.

He was unhappy with 1.07 AI. He found it hopeless or so. So he's out really :(

Considering this, he might have a point.

Notice the 2k swedish army joining the fun, and the Netherland boat has 9k worth of troops. Don't know wether they are arriving or leaving though.

Too bad though.
Russia was doing really well.
Makes me feel also a bit bad to have taken the picture a bit too much to the south in my M-E video. Otherwise we could have seen part of the siberian corridor geting colonised.

Turn 33 is out!

A bit sooner than normally turn 33 is out and sent to all players (about three hours ago). Master summary is available in AAR thread and order status and deadline information for next turn is available here.

I'm leaving tomorrow morning for about week and will have limited access to internet. So send your orders, but don't expect response sooner than 25th July. Automatic delivery notification should work though.

Best regards,
Daniel

Hastu Neon is missing

Hastu Neon missed this turn as he did last one. Because I'm leaving tomorrow and won't have connection there probably, could you please somebody try to contact him and find out what's going on? I'd appreciate it a lot.

Thanks :)

I will withdraw from the game for the following reasons :

1 - The number of active participators in this game has become too low IMHO. Especially the withdrawal of Ondoval made the game less interesing for me
2 - The AI under 1.07 is more difficult to control than the AI under 1.05. The current (1.07) AI is acting very strange.
3 - I have some holidays in the near future.

I know that I proposed to upgrade to 1.07 and I really regret that I have done that proposal. I consider that a big error.

Although I withdraw from this game I'm prepared to update my site with the game information (latest save file, history log, WFB and the videos).

I think that Daniel has done a great job in being a gamemaster for this game (I like to thank him for that) and I also enjoyed the communications with the other players, mainly by PM and ICQ (also about none game issues). And I will appreciate if these contacts will be continued (although we will mainly talk about the none game issues then) in the future.

I have already met Ironfoundersson IRL and I'm going to meet Ederon and Gorlin (probably) the next month and I hope that I will also meet other players somewhere in the future.

I have enjoyed this game very much, but now it's time for me to stop my participation. I hope you can understand that.

Thanks to all players for their participation :)

Well, I respect your decision, but the game being near the end I don't understand it.
Europe is human controlled except from Netherlands and Russia. If you feel that there is no challenge for OE, you could switch to Netherlands which is certainly an interesting country to rule.

Yes please AVN, reconsider.
The game is almost finished, and if you leave I really think that it will spell the end of it all.

I agree that 1.07 is tough. Some have too many troops, me I couldn't get my ai to build any, or almost.
It also bothers me that we are so few.
But if it's final, then ok.

Or if you want a bit more challange, Portugal.
I really don't mind releasing them.

Otherwise, I had an idea.
Really don't know how viable it could be, you guys can tell me.

What if we all took an extra country? Either a neighbour or a far flung one, depending. It would repopulate the map. We would have to redefine the rules of alliance, like probably only 2 players can be allied.
I am just wondering if it would really mean twice as much work or not.
Anyways, it'S just a thought like that.
Feel free to say no :)

OK, I have read your requests to reconsider my decision.
And I don't want to disappoint you in this stage of the game.

But with 6 (active) players the game is not really interesting anymore.
At least that's my opinion.

However Filou's proposal to let every player play 2 countries can help to save this game.

In case his proposal is accepted I'm prepared to continue this game. I know it makes role-playing a little bit more difficult but I think it's possible.

BTW if his proposal is not accepted I'm thinking about continuing this game as The Netherlands, but I'm not sure yet if that will be enough of a challenge for me (with the current number of players). I'll have to think about it a little bit more.

Huh

We're almost finished and the game is no more interesting for new players. So I think there is no obstacle for us to experiment with it.

If we could think little more about the rules for 2-country-players, then it's really possible to make it reality. At least that's my point of view. :)

And I really hope AVN will reconsider. ;)

I'm more than happy to play around a bit, though we need to be careful if we start to distribute the ai nations around that we don't completely mess up European politics. I probably shouldn't take Portugal, for example, or I might be more than happy to swap Oporto for an awful lot of cash to Brandenburg.

In other news, I now have an email connection at home again, and hence ICQ, so keep an eye out for me back online. I should have broadband in 2 to 3 weeks, which I will probably leave always on. As it is 2 Mb/s off peak, it should be, er, adequate for my needs.

If I'd known we were running on very easy rather than normal, I would have asked for a change sooner. I'm pretty sure the ai should now be much better running under normal. Ton, I hope that this should finally persuade you to keep playing, but I understand exactly what you're saying.

Hopefully, I'll speak to some of you soon. It might help to have an idea of when the next turn is planned as well, since I've forgotten.

Cheers,

Owen

Thanks for your understanding :)

IMO the game is stagnating and in fact it has almost become a hands-off game and a frustating one if the AI is acting so strange as it did the last few turns. And in such a situation it's better to quit the game then continue the way we are playing now.

And I know that at least one other, still active, player agrees with me on these points (he has told me that in private).

So something needs to be done.

With the current number of players I really think it would be good idea if the players could choose a second country to play.
For example I will really apreciate it if there was an active player for Russia and Poland again (and I also like to know if Asaris is still participating in the game because he missed last turn. In case he isn't I like an active player for Austria too).

As Owen pointed out playing two countries can result in some abuse. I think that can be limited by choosing countries which have a minimal influence on each other as possible. Furthermore I think that we have to trust the players to play fair and not to abuse the situation that they are playing two countries. Selling Oporto to Brandenburg is a deal which didn't make sense in the past for example. So a player shouldn't do this.

Furthermore we have to restart the diplomacy again. That's really necessary to get a more enjoyable game (at least that's my opinion). And maybe we should do that more in public.
To encourage the diplomacy I think it's a good idea that we shorten the maximum duration of NAP's and treaties a little bit. Because once you have a treaty or NAP the diplomatic contacts between 2 countries stop till the next treaty has to be negotiated.

Regarding the AI. I hope that the change to normal will result in a more reasonable working AI. But maybe we can do some additional research on this topic.

Finally I think it's important that every player participates actively in the game and will do his utmost to send his orders or asks for a delay of the turn if he isn't able to participate temporary (for example because of holidays).
Given the fact that there are so few players left I think such requests should be granted in general.
(I'm aware that El Greco becomes in trouble at the end of September due to his change of job, but I hope something can be worked out for him).

Because I haven't participated in this game last week (I know I'm responsible for this myself and I apologize for the inconvenience) I will appreciate if the current deadline will be delayed with a week. I really need to renew my treaty with Austria and IIRC my treaty with Russia.
Furthermore I think it's important that the issues raised above will be resolved before the game continues.

I'm looking forward to your comments (and hopefully your support) :)

PS : This means I will continue playing the game if that wasn't already clear.

Due to above mentioned reasons turn 34 is posponed till next Saturday (2nd August).

A agree with Ton, we can shorten treaty lasting to about 2-3 decades. In this stage, maybe 20 years would be better.

player - 1st country - 2nd possilbe countries
Ederon - France - Russia, Persia, Poland
AVN - Ottoman Empire - Netherlands, Portugal, Eire
Owen - Prussia - Persia, Portugal, Eire
Asaris - Austria - Portugal, Eire, Persia
Hastu Neon - Spain - Poland, Russia, Persia, Eire
Ironfoundersson - Sweden - Portugal, Persia, Eire
El Grecon - Genoa - Eire, Russia, Poland, Persia
Filou - England - Russia, Persia, Poland

This is only my first quick image of the situation.

And I really believe each of us can play two different countries with no, or very little, influence on each other. Role-play is always welcome and this could be real challenge. :)

A great idea.

I would remove Eire from the slecteable countries list as it is a country that occupies only the island of Ireland and is not very likely to have much interaction with other states except England. I would add to the list of selectable nations (as there are only six extra countries on your list while there are eight players):

Songhai (not for Portugal, Spain and the Netherlands)
Oman (not for OE, France and the Netherlands)
Gujarat (provided there is a Persian player, not for OE)
Delhi (if there is a Gujarat player)

My preference list is: Oman > Persia > Gujarat

I'm glad you all like my idea :)

I agree with Ironfoundersson that Eire is not that interesting, and about his extra country proposal.

My preferences would be, in order, Persia, Russia, and either of Gujarat or Delhi.

Like I said, the alliance sould be reworked so that they are smaller (2 players max?). If a larger one is created by ais, it should be dissolved the next turn. This way we could prevent the current situation where 66% of the players are in one huge alliance.
