Boehm, (and Nikolai II)

You might need to check Nikolai II's ai filename in the savefile. There seems to be an extra k.

Of course this could be due to Nikolai writing it differently in the first place.

If there is a problem, I imagine we'd be OK with recompensing him in some way.

I renamed most of the ai files to make the name system "uniform"...but there is no problem since I pasted the names from the aifolder into the ai field in the savegame...so NikolaiII´s name is just spelled weird both places! ;)

one question

how do you mean to run the game if nobody is being played?

im thinking that atleast one player has to be involved to make the game run, and if you chose to play a nation, it can only be hands-off if you do not do anything at all for that nation, which will be difficult seeing as people may dow it and you can never make peace or build armies, so you have the great chance of being annexed, which then you must go to another nation with the same chance of it happening again. Then after 4 or 5 hands-off player nations have been annex it starts to make a difference.

is there some other way you were planing on runing it that im not thinking of?

I think Boehm is just going to play it conservativly, and defend it from attacks....

At least, I ASSUMED he would - and that none of us are allowed to intentionally attack Kongo either,

Ah,

The allience rules just hit me,

I'm not allowed to allie with any other human players?

Can we modify the rule needing a pre-turn royal marriage to join a human allience?

Or is it that I'm allowed to marry other nations regardless of religion? (If so, will this apply to protestants later as well?)
Is that even possible in the game engine?

Hmmm, I guess I really don't mind the particulars of the rules, but I would like some way to allie with humans.

Maybe allow with an extra +50 relations prerequisite instead, and you would have to state the "option" for alliance the previous turn (a virtual RM), though no forcing alliances on non-human ai who aren't your religion.

Morocco is free! We can always use more players, and Gezeder is likely to welcome another infidel to the game :)

As for Christian allies with the infidels, I agree an extra 5o relations seems appropriate. Otherwise we can't have unholy alliances, which sucks. If Austria is reading this, I am speaking on behalf of France of course. :)

Yep, good point more Muslims can't hurt!

If you really want to mix things up, Algeirs is in the interesting position of being able to kill Portugal - now there's a change in history!

If you do want to join, make sure to read the rules quick-smart & send in your turn, only 14 hours left! (else you'll have to wait until next round.....)

I'd be happy enough with the extra 50 relations if everyone else is. Just so as there is some way!

Another question on rules for you all:

Given that Boehm is editing the file directly, should it be possible to set a custom time limit on diplomatic agreements between human players? i.e. a RM that lasts 15 years or something like that. I believe it would create no extra work.

Variably timed alliances sounds fair (isn't it 15 years now for RMs?)

Would probably have to pay more, since it is better than ordinary game action, so the rebate should be small, IMHO.

Human players can engage in RMs regardless of religion!...frankly I see a RM as much as a nonagression pact as a RM...especially later in the game when parliamentarism spreads....

hmmm well agree I agree that it would not create more work...just another chance for more confusion....ok Ill allow it lets see how it works out....however to avoid too much confusion I will only allow durations in steps of 5 years...up to max 50 years!

Excellent. I think military alliances should be pegged at 10 years max though to keep things fluid.

the rules have been updated to version 1.04! Changes:

- End Vassalization w. HUMAN*** (25 AP): This allows a country to release a vassal from its obligations provided that the wish to do os is a mutual one. (must be played by both!)

- Enter Alliance/Vassalization w. HUMAN*** (+25 AP per action)........"Royal mariage - duration 10-50 years...10year steps! [+0 relation".....

edit: INGAME (thus costing a starting fee of 100AP)
- Hire Mercenaries (25AP): This order will allow u to order the hireing of a company of mercenaries in a spc. province....beware that the cost/type of mercenaries will not necessarily be the same as at the time of orders are given if others have hired mercenaries at a highter initiative!...so make sure to have sufficiant funds!
