Today @16:00CEST - https://www.twitch.tv/paradoxinteractive
The stream will be available as a Twitch VOD as soon as the original broadcast ends. It will be uploaded to ParadoxExtra soon.

Today's stream will feature Dan "Podcat" Lind and Jakob "Havebeard" Have talking about how you can mod Hearts of Iron IV to be the game YOU want (if you are not entirely happy with the game we made). We've had an abundance of super awesome mods for all our previous titles, and we expect no less from this one.

So if you want to know more about modding! Tune in to https://www.twitch.tv/paradoxinteractive today at 16:00CEST.

Just a few questions I'd love to see answered:

- Is it possible to restrict technologies or entire tech trees to certain countries?

- Is it possible to switch national focus trees inside a game (so you can have separate focus trees for a communist France and a fascist France, for example, and switch to one if the country switches ideology)

- How does the game determine if a piece of equipment is an upgrade (if I have a TD variant each of a 1943 medium tank and a 1943 heavy tank, which one is considered better for the purpose of upgrading?)

- What exactly happens to a unit that is lacking certain equipment (like a motorized division that has no or few trucks)? Will the AI deploy divisions even if they are lacking equipment?

- How are divisional stats determined? For example, if I have a division with 9 motorized battalions and one with 8 motorized battalions and a regular infantry battalion, what will be their respective speeds? Will the second division move at walking speed? if I add a single mountain battalion to an infantry division, do they get the full mountain bonuses?

- Does the AI understand modded technology by itself or do we have to tell it to research certain things? Does it produce modded/added equipment if its divisions need it?

- Can equipment take fractions of a resource point to produce? (such as a tank not needing 5 steel and 3 rubber but 4.5 steel and 2.7 rubber, or infantry equipment costing 0.3 steel instead of 1 steel)

While these aren't "how do I mod x" questions, they would help a lot in understanding what can be done by modding.

But thanks for doing this even if you don't answer any of these!

Yeah, I should probably mention that I'm not the creator of today's awesome image. I know my splendor lately makes people assume all awesomeness is from me, but all creds to @Sideburnout for this one :)

-can we mod in so that 1 battalion would use 2 different equipment types? For example infantry battalion light equipment (fire arms) and hard equipment (mortars, panzerfaust and so on)? It would be great for creating different infantry battalions (light and fast or strong but slow).

This is already in, some battalions like Engineers need support equipment as well. Although the difference between a light and a heavy infantry battalion isn't that big, the main difference is in the supporting arms. A light infantry division has a lot fewer artillery guns.
