I don't get why there has to be an arrow to begin with. Just show the number there instead, in red or green depending on increasing or decreasing
and give the breakdown as a tooltip over the number.

After war? When you know it reads -0.10 unless you have relevant ideas?

The thing is, that arrow usually gives now new information. I "know" whether it should be rising or falling right now. By that logic the arrow is not needed either and the number and the breakdown could be in a mouseover of the reduce-button.

Once you've played the game a few hundred hours you get a feel for how much WE you are getting right now. Based on my losses and the enemy terrain i can make a pretty good guess. That doesn't mean im not taking a look at it. After all its just F1 -> 8 to get there. Having to move the mouse in addition to that is a fail in UI-Design. The less you have to move your mouse from the middle of the screen the better.

How about instead of arrow up or down just put number with colour code representing that its getting lower or higher? Number colour could change from yellow to dark red if WE goes up faster, same thing apply if it goes down due to peace time or ideas.
Same colour number could be applied to Inflation.

Alternative would be to have WE bar be coloured depending on rate at witch WE changes.
