Stellaris' ambient music always turns into static after I launch it and get into a game. The main menu music and loading screen music is fine, but when the game starts, ambient music just turns into a bunch of static. Regular soundtrack music from the music player seems unaffected, as well as the adviser voice. I've also noticed that when I go into the ship designer, the static noise becomes much louder. I reinstalled and updated my audio drivers thinking this would fix it but it did not. I also tried a re-installation which has not fixed it. I can play the files outside of Stellaris just fine, and this only happens inside the game. While turning ambient music off completely does eliminate the issue, it would be nice to know if there is a fix for this. Has anyone else had this issue and figured out a solution? Thanks.

I don't recall any other case precisely like this. Seems like some kind of crosstalk between your video and audio setups.

Does this affect CK2 or CSL?

Has it always been like this for you? Or only since what change or update?

I tried CK2 and Cities Skylines to see if they wereaffected it as well, and both seemed fine, although CSL did have instances where the audio would pop and crackle shortly on occasion. It also seemed to do this fairly recently. On my two PCs, Stellaris runs fine on my laptop, but my desktop is the one with this problem. I'm not entirely sure what the cause is, no other games I ran seem to have the static noise that Stellaris' ambient music does. I'm not entirely sure if this is a bug, or if it is a hardware issue on my part. I did recently update my sound drivers after experiencing problems in another game, and updated them again after experiencing this issue. Outside of Stellaris, the sound files play fine, but when I open the game and actually start playing (Past the main menu and loading screens), the ambient sound begins to sound like static. If it helps, I ran dxdiag to see if there were any issues with my sound and display, which both showed no issues according to it.

EDIT : I think I fixed it, I checked the disable all audio enhancements box under my headphones in the audio playback devices window, which is somewhat odd as I had no effects checked, and only the "immediate mode" feature was on. Regardless, Stellaris' static sound seems to have disappeared for the time being. Thank you for your time and help.

I only get static-ish noises when I open the Ship Designer (game sound and advisor are static-ish, it's not loud or extremely nagging though. It only seems minor.) Else everything is fine.
Just thought I'd throw it in so you're not the only one.

Also, I own the game since update 1.9.1, every other Paradox game (or any other game for that matter) have no video/audio issues.

Edit: Also, only "Immediate Mode" is ticked in Windows Audio.

Default Format is set to "32 bit, 192000 Hz (Studio Quality)". Could that have something to do with it as well?
