I sincerely hope this is explicitely scheduled AFTER Warfare and Diplomacy, because if Wiz gets sidetracked (from my perspective) again doing other content/fluff...
Yes exploration is nice, but exploration stops mid-game and fades into plain and boring warfare. So I would hope people on the forum to realize this basic issue and NOT cheer the devs on to priorizing an exploration DLC.

But eh, I'm probably fighting windmills here:

Are you suggesting war and diplomacy upgrade should be in a DLC pack? Because it should totally be in free patch. This would also resolve the not really existing problem of priorities.
Also, i'm perfectly fine with exploration coming before war and diplomacy. Exploration and the general space immersion is what makes Stellaris so much better than the horde of other 4x games and they should definitely capitalize on that.

My cat also always thinks he knows best.

He's a cat, he DO know best, even if he's mistaken.

Somehow I can't get over that leader name. I suppose his friends call him Kurnurbi.

Or just Bun for friends.

No, but so far changes to general core system A were always done accompanied by a DLC adding even more features to core system A.
I.e. Utopia Patch reworked Factions and Internal Politics, whilst adding new things for internal politics in the Utopia DLC.
That's why I think it's reasonable to assume that any warfare focussed 'patch' will be one delivered together with a warfare focussed DLC.

Albeit, good reminder, I forgot that we could get 1.9 without a DLC attached, and thus maybe a warfare (or diplomacy) rework could indeed arrive without DLC whatsoever.

Exploration and the general space immersion is what makes Stellaris so much better than the horde of other 4x games and they should definitely capitalize on that.
I suppose you do have a point there.
But on the other hand, if Exploration provides that much immersion already, whereas war is unintuitive, clunky (magical forcefield truces) and usually boringly unimmersive (slap two fleets of numbers together), maybe fixing up warfare would 'increase the immersion levels' further then upping the already solid Exploration aspect.
(Personally, the concept of customizeable unique 'heroic' flagships is probably the most immersive thing I can think of. But that's preference.)

I don't really think that the exploration side of Stellaris is in need of more content, it's the highlight of the game and I don't think you really make the game better by just padding that content out or artificially extending it. Exploration is an early-game peace mechanic, what you do to make things interesting before you have a large enough empire for managing that empire to be interesting. I think the best way to improve that side of the game is to make empire management and diplomacy far more engaging.

With internal factors, an extension of factions, adding in planet movements, more events related to temporary swings in public perception, and more mid-game crises like the new AI rebellion would help make managing an empire far more interesting.

External factors, add in systems where empires can influence one another through negotiations and espionage. Also allow ways for empires to resist outside influence with things like counter-diplomacy, propaganda, or cutting off relations. Let us establish a mix of trading relationships and treaties that might be mutually beneficial or predatory, with both sides having options for putting time and effort into shifting agreements in their favor or shifting public perception in an empire to either be unwilling to break a deal or convincing the populous to allow the leader to finally end a highly undesirable agreement.

Now dealing with a large empire and other large empires is much more interesting and much more flexible. Wars are things that generally evolve out of the negotiating table failing (you're not talking about imperialist/extermination empires who're far more belligerent or just don't care). Players are also never helpless at getting some particular item or not, if you invest more diplomatic power than your rival and they don't take a big penalty to shut you down, you can get the deal you want. Peace-time exploration while there's still unclaimed frontiers and undiscovered empires is perfectly fine right now. It's what happens after that that doesn't work.

Exploration in Stellaris is indeed great and it is what makes it look a great game when you first pick it up. As soon as you realize that what you uncover isn't all that fun to deal with once you have to/want to declare war then the game ends up being shelved more and more.

I know there is no perfect single game, but if Stellaris' warfare was half as engaging as HoI4's I think it would be a good contestant for best Grand Strategy game of all time.
The same could be said about EU4's diplomacy and CK2's character management, but I think warfare is the one that needs improvements the most.

Hm...

It's a good thing my government mod has it where the exalted priesthood and warrior culture civics and the oligarchy authority gives you the Templar Council government!

Hope we see some more of the robot government types a bit more.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but there's usually a month or so following the announcement of the release date, and the release itself with PDS expansions.

So, until we hear something, assume were X+30days from Synthetic Dawn's release (X being the current date, solve for X)

Also: last we saw, most of the robot portraits are incomplete- that was a few weeks ago so they could be done by now, but they do take a while so factor that into your guesswork for the release date

I believe there are some problems at the source:
  1. Wiz has skipped the gamescom, officially bugfixing, they might have found a big one
  2. Q & A was uncertain about most of the answers, perhaps aware that the release could have big changes
  3. Gamescom was the best opportunity to announce its release date, but, following the first two points, they decided not to announce it because bugfixing might take longer
[It's just a theory, which though true, could not delay the release]

They did say that they are going to try their best to avoid releasing buggy updates. I think that would also mean that they won't announce a release date until a week or so before its release, just to be sure that they can delay it without disappointments.

It's for the best, really. The Dev team have been taking a lot of flak lately for the buggy updates, so they're looking to restore some faith in their customerbase.

EDIT: God damn it. My phone keeps autocorrecting some to Adobe, for Adobe reason.
