This one took me by surprise, so I thought I'd post it here. Poland and Lithuania are *not* in a personal union at the 1444 start date. The history files have been updated so they unit in 1447, but playing from the 1444 start, I haven't seen them unite yet.

Have they ever been in a PU at game start? Poland can via decision PU Lithuania within a year or so, but I doubt they actually start in a PU
Yes, but they do not take this decision because Jagiellon has heirs with strong/average claims. In 1.7 he had no heir.
Ah, I always saw them in PU the first time I looked, so I assumed they started that way. This was probably intentional since Poland is now lucky. A lucky commonwealth blob would be fearsome.
In the game I currently play, Poland has led a PU with Lithuania since 1446 so it does happen.
0 out of 4 my tries so far. Do you have all DLCs? Is Poland an elective monarchy? The problem in my case is that Poland's throne is overrun by foreign candidates (Von Wittelsbach) and doesn't share a dynasty with Lithuania.
Long story short POL-LIT PU wasn`t continuus all the time. In 1444 after Varna there was interregnum in Poland, kings son ruled over lithuania as Grand Prince, but polish nobles debated if it is in their/poland best interest to continue union and give throne to the next jagiellon, in 1447 Kazimierz IV was elected or you could also say his right to the throne was confirmed by polish nobility and he became king of Poland and Grand Prince of Lithuania which leads to another PU for POL and LIT. This is one of the few things that PDX didn`t messed up in POL/LIT in EU4 xD

They PUed in my first AOW game and even formed the Commonwealth, that being said they don't start out in a PU though it is pretty effortless to get it within a year.
On my second AoW campaign and I they PU'd both games. First game, Commonwealth was formed. Second game, playing Brandon/Prus, I was barely able to bust the union after a couple of horrible wars. Poland set as a Lucky Nation has made forming Prussia in PITA now.
