I'm surprised how awesome the papal state is in 1.8. At first glance I didn't like the changes, seeing as they lost papal influence points, and there ideas where to me butchered. Once I dug into a game and seen they had an early +4 tolerance to catholic I new there was something special. I'd even go so far as saying they are the best of the Italians right now as they don't need to boost autonomy to much, giving them some good expansion potential. They also start off with the curia which is a free cb for little ae, extra diplomat, ae modifier, and tech bonus. It's almost to good to be true
