1.8 Now 1.9 Next 2.0 What?

So we're getting pretty close to 2.0. AoW(1.8) was a pretty large DLC. 1.9 may be associated with another small DLC, or may just include a lot of tweaks and bugfixes. Usually, when a major expansion is released, the version number will go up to the next whole number. However, with EUIV and CKII Paradox has changed it's release strategy from expansions to DLCs.

In Vicky 2 we're on 3.03.
In CKII we're on 2.2.

Do you think there will be another major DLC released with 2.0? What was the DLC that coincided with CKII 2.0?

You know version numbers don't have to go from 1.9 to 2.0, right? They can do versions 1.10, 1.11, 1.12 and so forth.

That's very confusing though, and bad for a game that patches every month.
Probably every minor dlc will push the version by 0.1 points.

Paradox doesn't really seem to put much significance in version numbers. If they did, they would have just skipped 1.8 and 1.9 to call the AoW patch 2.0, since it's unlikely there will be another patch this size any time soon.

But the most likely thing to happen is that 1.9 will just be another patch without DLC, and 2.0 will come with some kind of themed DLC again. That pattern has been pretty consistent so far, if you exclude Res Publica due to it just being a little side project.

It's not confusing at all, it's standard practice.

its just the convection they could just as easily use letters and numbers or do like apple does and name the new builds completely differently.

There's definitely no reason for the version number after 1.9 to necessarily be 2.0. Crusader Kings II was at 1.11.1 before it went to 2.0, and I wouldn't be surprised if EU4 does similar.

I think they said that moving from 1.x to 2.x would involve some significant changes in the code, which just happened to coincide with SoA for CK2.
