It's a bug when u change bookmarks before u start the game, all wars that were at the start of 1444 get nulified. Yes, even HYWOttos aren't at war with Albania now? That's quite a big change for Byz. I didn't know about that.

It also becomes Turkish, though. Maybe not a huge deal if turkish becomes (and stays) "accepted", but if you're doing it just because you feel better with a high base tax capital, how can any self-respecting byzophile tolerate a capital that isn't Greek? You'd have to convert it with 15-17 BT, not 22. Which is easily doable.

Thanks for the advice, the quoted part is what I would call the strategy a person of my skill level could be able to pull off. Luring them over straits sounds effective but as an EU4 newbie there's a too high a chance for me to screw it up so I'll play it safe. In the first war I already pushed them to 15+ WE and into deep debt, certainly I could repeat the feat. I've tried to ally with Mamluks since the beginning but never get high enough relations.Alternatively, you can just camp their capitol + blockade to drag out a long war and bankrupt them.
Seems more like it's the other way around. They don't appear if you don't mess with the timeline. But who knows? I certainly do hope this is a bug. But the chances are slim. Otherwise a dev would've stated so by now.

So annoying that the war with Venice took so long. Serbia will have to wait.
But then, with Venetian core on Albania gone I figure they won't be bothering me again.
Noooooooooo. Shhhhhhhh. After 9 pages of discussion and the cheese/workaround found pretty much instantly, could a mod grace us with his presence and answer us if the missing cores is a bug or wad? Thanks...
Noooooooooo. Shhhhhhhh.
Why are you inviting the nerfbat for the cheese. Just consume and be happy.
Clearly, it was intended by someone. Those cores have been consciously removed, as in deleted from a file from which they were present before. It just seems unlikely that it was the work of some rogue employee who thought it was appropriate and did it without sanction.
The thought of a "rogue employee" in a development team that size is kind of amusing though.
One other way would be to get an ally on the opposite side of ottoman territory which forces them to split their attention. They did that with me and as a result they never merged their stacks before it was far too late and I was in the lead. Poor Trebizond though. They got hit hard for it.Thanks for the advice, the quoted part is what I would call the strategy a person of my skill level could be able to pull off. Maybe Fredrik crept in at night and modified those four files, just to mess with Johan and Wiz. Clearly he feels they are getting a bit too uppity. The thought of a "rogue employee" in a development team that size is kind of amusing though.
The add_core lines have been physically removed from those four files. Seems unlikely.I guess i am just hoping that new province IDs and the multiple 1444 bookmarks somehow bug the game, instead of this being wad. And i m pretty sure the cores inst the only Byz *cheese* atm![]()

But the real challenge is becoming BYZ, starting as Trebizond. Komnenos are the legitimate dynasty, after all. And you should get your buff to Constantinople without having to surrender it.
True. In the past that was a boost. Can't remember are the new TRE ideas better? The old BYZ ones are decent. If you do that you have to sac your ideas to become BYZ though.
I'll try that, I guess even if I am defeated in Anatolia I will always have safe access back home.I didn't realize mamluks would be so far back in tech. In my game I trashed Ottos much harder so that wouldn't have happened.
That said, you can still run them ragged with WE + blockades or to strait crossing games. If you can get their army size down, full carpet = stuff from war after all.
