Thats why you often get them as your first two ideas.
Military ideas you can often avoid, moreso if you national ideas are military powerful.
Trade probably give more power for most nations then any military idea will, it also have a hidden bonus of giving you 15 naval force limit because of the merchants.

I like republics, and short of good fortune with revolutionaries that means influence + aristocratic are the big first 2 groups, but deus vult at 10 isn't too hard to pull off.

The question that should be asked is not: "Should i take humanist?" but rather "Can i make do without it?".
Can you keep your realm stable using other methods and do those other methods use less ressources, especially admin points.
If not, take humanist. Somewhere around third or forth idea maybe.
If you do have humanist, though, you can afford to expand faster than if you used other methods to avoid rebels.

Not necessarily, no. Heavy vassal feeding will render the utility of humanist limited, and considering that you can front up to 400% OE distributed between 4 vassals that way (and if you have an extra relations, still have an ally), the -nationalism and -unrest from direct conquest is only a small portion of your expansion potential. The benefit to religious is that you can get 0 DIP cost on provinces for holy wars this way, something you'd otherwise have to do via only claims/cores until DIP 22. As a result, religious has potential to be faster rather than slower.

I'm starting to think religious is being underrated if you're running AoW. Early on you can just pick up Deus Vult and spam feed a vassal you've put in your religion without spending DIP there other than annexing. Later you can either fill it more or dump it once you have imperialism.

Great info.

I haven't had much time for EU4 since the hotfix made it playable again, so still trying to figure out how CBs carry back and forth between you and vassals taking land.

Next up will be a Deus Vult + Influence conquest fest.
