Hi!
I just read in several threads that MP has become very unstable and unplayable since patch 1.8.1. Can anyone confirm this please and explain what is wrong with MP since this patch?

We're ok with playing EU4 vanilla or previous patches if that fixes the problem but how? Since EU4 everything runs on steam and I don't know how to play previous patches.
Will the checksum cause any problems for the other players to join a hosted game?

This is really annoying as I have a 2day LANgame coming up with some friends.

HELP! :)

Well in a LAN environment I guess the common problems like OOS that plague the usual MP scene are not as frequent and rehosting every couple years shouldn't be a problem. You should be fine, just prepare everyone that rehosting is "normal".

There are currently many MPs going on in the Multiplayer Sub-forum. Hotfix/Patch 1.8.1 resolved most of the MP issues, AFAIK, and I've been playing a regular game without significant change from pre-AOW status (again: 1.8.1). Sure, people disconnect but nothing new about that, some desync also, but not more than usuall. :)

Indeed, we will be in a LAN environment but since EU4 everything goes through steam which makes it only possible to connect through the usual internet connection. So there's no difference with a usual MP game, even if players are physically in the same room. Right, or am I missing something?

Nice! Does that mean that we can play AoW? I didn't buy it yet because I was affraid of problems/bugs. What would you recommend for a stable MPgame lasting 48 hours?

Your LAN environment brings out of game advantages, if somebody crashes/goes OOS a rehost in LAN is much faster organised than in a public game environment. You know the boys and you know if he is gonna rejoin the rehost or not, if he has some problems or has to reboot you will know it aswell and can wait for him in the lobby. These are massive advantages compared to public games where you do not know why this guy just crashed or went OOS.

The LAN environment will not safe you from the multiplayer bugs but it makes it easier to work around them.

Playing with my friends with latest fix and everything is going smoothly. Ofcourse there are some OOS but they are really rare

I only play on a LAN with my kids and it does OOS still just like on the internet honestly. Seems to be steam related, if we set it to offline mode, it seems to not happen as much.

I am in two separate MP games. Both are running 1.8.1 with all the DLCs. We are having no issues with OOS or other crashing troubles, beyond the usual player who's ISP/machine has a glitch. Sunday, we completed 4 hours without a single re-host.
