1.8.1 Beta Hotfix update #3 - checksum 9ed6

The beta hotfix for 1.8 has been updated with a fix that should hopefully resolve the performance issue people were experiencing after a few years of play. New checksum is 6f46 9ed6.

ETA: if you are having any new crashes, black flags or shields, or any other such weird issue since this patch, Please try a full clean re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "delete local content" in Steam-EU4
- opt into the 1.8.1 hotfix in the Steam beta tab
- manually delete all files and folders left under Steam/EU4 AND Documents/Paradox/EU4
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.

If you still get such issues, post details reports here or in Bug Reports. Anything reproduceable, link to a save game please.

Playing Ironman. I'm getting this error every month and the game does not save.

Playing 1.8.1 Beta Hotfix checksum 6f46, no mods, no expansions. I already rolled back to 1.8, then reinstalled 1.8.1 again. Verified files integrity with Steam.

Anyone also getting this?

Re-installing the game again didn't help. Starting a new game did. The problem only seems to affect existing games, and came out of nowhere (I'd been playing fine for more than an hour when it first appeared.)

- Fixed a performance issue caused by AI trying to use certain AoW features when Art of War was not enabled that could cause significant slowdown on some machines.

So, did I really have to post something in the tech support thread to get someone to even think about this? This, along with the fact its clear you never tested the game with AoW disabled, is a bit sad. Though with that said, my stuttering issues seem to be gone.

Also, the sticky links to the old, closed discussion thread. That needs to be fixed. And while you are at it, get Paradox to get rid of the private forums (I'm assuming the publisher has control of that). Why is the FAQ forum private? Bug reports? Tech support? Good chances are if I didn't get to play the game through a shared Steam library, I wouldn't have bought the game. I like to research things before I buy... locked/hidden/private forums tell me you are hiding something. And throughout this whole AoW mess, I couldn't see what other people were posting in tech support without registering.. then registering my keys for the game. That is just a bit over the top.

No, sorry, your post had nothing to do with it. We've been investigating this since the first report of performance differences, it was diligent work on the part of QA that allowed us to reproduce and fix it. The issue affected only a minority of users, so it wasn't as simple as 'start up without AoW, problem found'.

Failing a swift update, can we get old betas kept on Steam for when we end up in situations like these? I know a long list of available betas is a little cumbersome, but it lets players keep playing.

No, sorry. There's a reason we put 'use at own risk' on the betas. Should hopefully be resolved with next update though.
