But that's 90 AE with only 1 weaker nation that should hardly provide a challenge to a human controlled Ottoman Empire. Plus you can always set your sights on the Middle East rather than further conquest into Europe if your AE is getting too high with European nations.

Its only an example, there is already a coalition out of hungary, Venice, Walachia and Bosnia because i generate this Ae. And your Idea to conquest somewhere else, works only in theorie, but not in the real game. BEcause simply the following happens: U now lets say attack the mamelucks, than u get after the war , that takes around 4 years another 2 or 3 coalition members, definatly the mamelucks and sometimes HEdjaz/Najd and/or Timurid. Now u have a coalition that has about the double military power than u self and u cannot do anything now, because taking more land in the east is calling more into the coalition and taking land in the west is doing the same. Now u have to wait around 10 years until the Ae is gone and the Coalition is break so much that u can advance again . And what u do in this 10 years ?, nothing....
Before 1.6 u can try to better the relations to avoid that Nations enter an coalition by change the AE with good relations boni, but since 1.6 this doesnt work anymore because every nation around u want after some time some of your provinces, what get down your Relations to -100 and more, without chance to raise them, what automaticly and random let them jump into coalitions, uninteresting what AE u have, i have seen nations joining coalition against me with 5 AE .

90 AE ? for making ottomans Constaquest and vassaling serbia ? , this takes 30 years with this Ae decay do get deleted, in all the time u cannot do anything than waiting ? is this what paradox wanna make a Strategy game ? why than not renaming the Game in something better like: Europa Uniwaiting or Europa Boring or what is with "5 speed- Game over in 4 hours - Universalis" and as untertitle of your games u can write: YES its paradox and we know it :eek:hmy:

I assume you vassalised Serbia. Bosnia the country bordering Serbia has just seen a massive Islamic empire came and subjugated their larger Christian neighbour (easily) and you want them just be like, oh doesn't matter we'll be fine.

Bosinia should be terrified and trying everything in their power to stop the same fate happening to them. In 1.6.1 it's so easy to just conquer and conquer without any opposition. You're the OE. Most powerful nation in the east with a navy to rival anyone in the world. You just vassalised a fairly substantial country and their nehigbours are now very worried.

You don't have to wait 30 years. How about fighting the coalition and beating them down. Showing them who is boss in the East instead of boring easy conquest were you roll over a little country.

Having great fun (playing Muscovy) Hard and AI bonus. Very stable game. Maybe AE is a bit much for those playing central/western Europe.

Could you please also halve the AE gain, but couple with lowering threshold for joining coalition. So AE gain is still cause coalition but not completely throw the diplomacy aspect of the game away.

No. WETN is so poor, even in 1.6. games this is due to the AI not placing merchants in either WETN to get upstream power from their CNs or in the colonial regions to steer to WETN. Right now it does neither and all trade stays in colonial areas.
They probably dont move merchants to WETN because they dont get any tradepower from their CNs so it doesnt make sense for the AI.

It's due to lacking merchants I think. It's 1563 in my current game and I'm playing England/GB. All 4 colonizers have some colonial holdings and at least 1 CN formed and are listed as having power in the new world nodes accordingly, they just don't have enough merchants to get the job done (1 for new world node, 1 for WETN). Merchants are placed as follows:

Portugal: Sevilla & Genoa
Spain: Bordeaux & Genoa

(between the two they are pulling ~50% of the value out of Genoa to Sevilla)

France: Antwerpen & Genoa

(pulling ~40% out of Genoa)

me: WETN, St. Lawrence, and North Sea although I might move the WETN one to Chesapeake or London soon, it was getting me a trickle of value out of the Caribbean until French Canada formed and put a merchant there to direct all outgoing up to Chesapeake.

None of the others have additional merchants yet, I expect things may change once more merchants show up and also as natives get swallowed. We all know that it only takes one merchant to ruin a nice path...

One curious item I noticed: France and Spain both have power that could theoretically drive trade into the WETN that is showing the blue pushback icon instead (France in St. Lawrence, Spain in Caribbean).

"Wants your provinces" modifier is painful, random and arguably redundant with other modifiers. It feels like the broken border friction in 1.2.
No it's actually worse : it is broken border friction even without borders.

Actually it has been changed in the patch 1620 here. They now receivce power again and steer. WETN is however still only at 9, which might change.

Does Spain have a merchant in St. Lawrence ? Could mean they transfer trade upstream from Caribbean to St. Lawrence.

Or you can beat up other nations, while you wait for the Christians to stop hating you. - This is particularly realistic as the Ottomans, you know that Egypt and Persia are just begging to be ruled by the Kaiser-i-Rum.

You do not fight rebels, just accept demands because fighting them is pointless unless they are religious/pretender/revolutionaries (westernizing), you still get massive AE, diplomacy is meh, all your neighbours wants piece of you, your troops are exiled inside allied borders, diploannex/integration is still 15DMP/1BT, rival system is flawed, westernization still sucks (not getting western units, lame tech bonus from neighbours etc...), ROTW is nerfed to darkest hole in the universe. Overall if you want stable and strategic experience, play 1.5.

If you feel "experimental" load up a new game with 1.6.1.1 and see for yourself, and prepare for some nasty surprises :)

Currently I'm in the middle of a beta game as Switzerland and I've found the AE gain and decay to be a lot more balanced. I've been consistently conquering provinces so yes I've had coalitions against me, but there are way fewer nations joining compared to 1.5.1 and the nations joining are all in close proximity to me. This is because the AE you receive with more distant nations was reduced in 1.6.1 and now while you still have to be aware of potential coalitions, you don't have to worry about every remotely nearby nation joining. I still feel, however, that the AE from enforcing personal unions and vassals is still too high considering they take up a diplomatic relation, require diplomacy to annex now, and require you to wait at least 10 years to annex a vassal and even longer for a PU. Overall I think this patch moves the game in the right direction but more balancing still needs to be done.

- Restored AE Decay to intended levels.

Good. I prefer the original value of 2, but I will probably be ok with 3 as well.

Don't listen to casuals' requests next time. Changing AE decay to 4 was the worst decision ever made; coalitions barely formed, and if they did they quickly dissolved in few years. Coalition mechanics were completely out of picture, and even though those who requested called the state of 1.61 a perfect balance, you must know better. The change revered EU4 to the level of EU3 where you could become a superpower in first 50 years and there was no challenge afterwards.

edit: Hurrah. Back to the original value. I honestly don't understand what was going through your mind when you guys changed it to 4, but I'm glad it's back. Thank you so much.
