Does this mean that the colonizers will be getting their islands and colonies snatched in European wars? I mostly play in the Middle East/India/East Eurasia and am curious to see if this will change how the ownership of the Americas end up.

If the colonizer's (Spain/Portugal/England) navy is beaten or avoided will France/Aragon/Morocco/Austria/Aztec/etc. now be more likely to assault islands, overseas cities, and especially taking over colonies during war? Taking a colony while its building up gives a free core- will the AI fight for them if they have the navy to go for them? With FBR not giving colony and coring range anymore will the AI in coastal countries use naval invasions when possible?

Guess I'll keep playing a bit more to see, as this would make the game more interesting for me if I find a few random Eurasian and/or North African colonies or even colonial nations in the Americas when I westernize. :)

I've definitely seen nations like Poland sieging colonial nations. However, nations that don't have any colonists will never take a colony in progress. If they somehow do end up owning it then they will just abandon it.

Also, I believe that nations tend to avoid sieging any land that is far away unless they have nothing better to do.

They have to be careful with the AI naval attrition cheating. Some ridiculous stuff can happen because of it.

Like what, do they not get attrition and can basically infi-explore? If so thats hella cheating since they can explore sooner than me and do it infinitely.

But I do still hope to see more AI naval invasions if for nothing more than seeing different countries in the Americas and maybe the Danes going all viking on Western Eurasia. :)

Yes, they get zero attrition for any/all ships they own. Supposedly the AI can't handle it.

The AI may not suffer naval attrition, but I think they pretend they do in certain cases. You'll never see AI Portugal attacking India in 1500. I don't know what rules the AI has in place to make them pretend they suffer naval attrition, but I've never came across a situation where they're clearly cheating.

naval attrition cheating seems the worst to me, i had a game where Portugal discovered and completely colonized California before 1600, that's insane! I think the ai should be limited within its own colonial range for exploration would be a better solution.

If they colonized California then that means it was within colonial range. I don't see how limiting AI to stay within colonial range would have changed anything in your situation.

should have mentioned they took the native tribe out first

Wouldn't they have still needed to be in colonial range so that they could core the provinces and do actual colonizing though?

Regardless, I can't recall seeing AI go way outside of colonial range with their boats. Was this in a recent patch? It might be better now. Besides, AI should be going further than their colonial range so that they can discover provinces and actually find provinces. Humans do it all the time. I always discover new world provinces that are outside of my colonial range. If their naval range rules actually do need tweaking, I think limiting it to colonial range is too restrictive.

IIRC embarked units still suffer the same attrition penalty that the player's do though, so a navy sailing from, say, Copenhagen to Korea will drop a significantly weakened army.

Probably they colonized most of south America, it was patch 1.4.

MMM Tuscany dropping troops off in the North Pole is a little suspect, and I had Teutonic troops dropped off in my Chesapeake colonies. Also the situations like Naples blockading Sweden.
