It just kinda dawned on me... everyone complaining about how AE needs to be nerfed/removed because there's nothing else to do?

Either they're just upset that its more difficult to expand through pure military might, or they don't possess much in the way of vision/imagination. Because yeah, it'd be nice to have more to do than warfare (though I personally enjoy colonizing, trying to fiddle with trade, and otherwise managing my empire in peacetime), but that doesn't mean we should just return to 1.4 blob-for-all. I do think AE and coalitions need to be tweaked (maybe a return of a more balanced and once loathed "the bigger you are, the more AE you get" system?), but for the most part I'm still happy with them. So I can't add a dozen HRE provinces in a decade as East Frisia, is it really such a horrifying thought that hyper-aggression in the HRE will bring the world down on your head?

And it is hyper-aggression, because I have in 1.5 expanded pretty successfully as a OPM in the HRE. It'd be nice if certain folks, instead of continuing the "OMG AE is so broken and it happened to you to, you should quit EUIV for now" spiel they seem intent on, would either stop spreading their skewed view on current gameplay or actually learn how to avoid a massive coalition and then tell others how to avoid it.

Still unhappy you can't be a warmongering Ulm right off the bat? Well, the hell did you expect, you started off as Ulm.

the problem is. if you cant expand theres really nothing to do. especially as an OPM. eu4 needs more peacetime stuff to do

Which is what I just said in the post you quoted.

The problem is people demanding to make expansion through warfare easier when the real solution is to give more to do during peace.

It would be nice if certain folks demanded a command of general language skills by talking about the actual things other people said, rather than making up opposing arguments to argue with themselves.

But hey, can't have everything I guess.

Just wanted to step in with a confessional and this seems the appropriate thread, going by the title, to confess despite the seemingly inevitable argument that springs up whenever anyone spouts off an opinion.

I was determined to not like this game and refused to buy it for a long time, but every review loved it and that included reviewers who I trust regarding strategy games. Players were loving it. The game stayed a top seller for a long time.

I still don't like being forced to a Steam-only distribution, but that's an opinion, a personal dislike.

I have been working on this game for a few weeks now, as I find time to mess with it. I've restarted it like 3 or 4 times now, mainly trying to find a way through the HYW as England, but I'm not that good a player. This last England game I've used the Steam client to track my time and I've played for 31 hours and finally made it to 1680 and I'm loving this game. I have not had this much fun since I first discovered EU1 in a bargain basket somewhere around 2002. EU2 and 3 just left me flat, but something about this version of the game has recaptured the magic.

Thumbing my nose at the business model, but kudos to the developers. You've made me feel 48 again. :)
