I just started playing again after a break. I think the last patch I played before just starting up again on 1.5 was 1.3. I've played a couple games as Russia, a couple as England, and just started a Brandenburg game. I've been having a blast with all the above. The colonial game especially is far more fun now. I have no complaints about AE or coalitions whatsoever. I like there to be controls on map painting. Great job, PI.

Oh yeah! We have a game again. Our most beloved game in history is finally a game again. I'm so happy. Been playing every night since the new patch came out (always hard, AI Bonus, Historical Lucky Nations.

Been testing Tuscany, Brandenburg, and Sweden so far. Planning to do a Holland game next (Burgundy start, release Holland as vasall, then play Holland). I'm sure I'll love it more then ever.

Other game mechanics shines alot more too now, diplomacy in particular. It's now so important to be smart about it. Getting an extra diplomat or two means something again, the same does for instance hiring a Better Relations over Time Advisor. By making constant warfare less viable the game has actually given us more meaningfull peace time puzzles. I seldom go more then speed 2-3. It's so rewarding to follow what's going on arround the world again. That knowledge counts.

Coalitions could be a tiny bit harsher i believe, and my allies should get more AE on me, so it became more of a struggle to keep them allied (seems like your allies, even neighbouring ones, are very little affected by you agressively expanding and slowly becoming a threath to them). But I'm very pleased; We have a game again for sure.

Ditto here, I am loving 1.5. I started eu4 in 1.4 and felt disappointed by all the blobbing. 1.5 makes more sense to me, and the world/AI seems to be so much better. I do not understand what's all the fuss is. As France, by 1550, I own all the north of Italy and Ireland. I felt that is already a lot of territory to have for a country, thus I don't get why people are angry about 1.5. I haven't tried a tiny nation yet though.

Depends. Sometimes, AI joins with less than 10 AE, sometimes it won't until you conquer half of it. It's hindering, but not too much. Perhaps not perfect, but enjoyable really. A good patch indeed, I have no real complaints about it as I'm concerned.

Only if you don't bother to read the actual complaints posted here. I'll assume that you haven't to give you the benefit of the doubt .

Ottoman, take Constantinople, vassalize Byz. Hungary joins a coalition with 15 AE. Later in the same game sit around and do nothing. Poland joins the coalition with 9 AE against them (about 10 years later). NINE. Although I do have to admit in my dozens of ottoman games i've never seen that type of behavior before in 1.5.

I agree. 1.5 is great, the only real complaint I have is the time it takes to Core... it's incredibly long and leaves you overextended for a very long period of time. I wouldn't mind it if you can technically expand via only Hostile/Diplo Vassalization but that is not the case at all.

Other than that, the changes are great.

Coalition is still a little bit wonky. But, meh, I am fine with whatever patch. EUIV is still a great game, and 1.5's colonization is definitely WOW.

I personally have no problem with 1.5 and I really can't see those issues about AE, coalitions etc. Maybe that's becase I always play carefully therefore I'm not conquering everything around me. And remember people- diplomacy is the key.

The only issue now is alliance penalty between great powers which IMHO is ridiculous.

It's actually not bad because you can ally two great powers and it prevents uber alliances also against you. But coalitions should be buffed to make up for it

Agree with OP love the current patch! AE is actually generated and makes the game a strategy rather than smash everything in sight!

When I saw your post I went to read some of the complaints you're referring to. From the best I can gather, the primary complaint is that there is too much down time between wars because of waiting for AE to go away. In my Russia game I didn't care about AE or coalitions because I was a juggernaut from nearly the start. In my England game I have been colonizing. I just started my Brandenburg game. All that said, though, I think people should realize you don't have to take territory with every war. You only get AE from chewing up territory. You can still go to war for trade power, money, and I think colonies since they're so far away(?). You can also build during down time. One things' for sure, IMO, massive blobbing as it was before just sucks. I think it's still too bad, frankly.

Hey man, if they get to blanket insult people, me disrespecting one person for doing so should be no issue. Look at what I quoted. The implications are obvious. Also, I mentioned no specific mechanic in this thread haha. Even here it's hard to find answers to what was actually said!

Yeah, I like it too. Sure it's not perfect (naval combat comes to mind) but I'm having a lot of fun with it.

I wasn't apologizing. Just pointing out I've considered the other side and still disagree.
