Im liking most of the changes coming in 1.5 and i am quite excited to hear em, but there is something we have gotten NO word on, as far as i am aware. This is new species portraits, which got me personally excited for the game. What new portraits do you guys think/want to come up in the new update or perhaps with the dlc? I personally would like more humanoids and plantoids, which tend to be underused, unfortunately.

I guess planetoids are unlikely since they are tied to this dlc. But I would also like more humanoids as well, especially some that look like slightly twisted humans like the Helghast from Killzone.

Wait, new species portraits are coming with 1.5 or Utopia? Do you have a source on that? Because if so this news to me.

I'd also be interested to know what the source is! I'd like to see more humanoid species too. I'm pretty boring in the sense that out of all the portraits to choose from, so far I've only chosen humanoids.

I'd like to see some fish-like or water-going creatures now. Sure, they may seem a bit out of place on dry planets, but if you take some inspiration from the lungfish, an animal capable of surviving on dry land for months, it would be plausible enough.

He's (or she) is asking what you would like to see. Not that there has been news. There's been no mention on the forums or twitter officially on a new species portrait pack for 1.5 or Utopia so far.

Given that Utopia is going to give us the ability to turn our pops into synthetics, extensively genetically engineer them and ascend via psychic potential I'd love new portraits built around that. Multiple synth types would be great (it's already a bit weird that every species in the galaxy makes the same humanoid robots, droids and synths). Perhaps one or two (or three) synth portrait types per class, so three mammalian synths, three anthropoid etc. Not so sure about genetics or psionics.

I guess art team is working on new synthetic portraits and Immaterial portraits. (and maybe even portraits for very genetically modified species?)

I can't imagine no new portrait for transcendented species, and having the same portraits for synthetics as well as species with their brains "uploaded" to robots would be confusing

When I believe they announced the last portraits:
https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/foru...laris-dev-diary-49-graphics-portraits.974104/

Wiz said of Humanoids "When making portraits going into the future, we will continue to focus primarily on 'alien' aliens, and humanlike ones will always be very much in the minority, but they will still be there for those that want them."

So the assumption is that portraits will be coming... at some point.

Personally I'd like to see a few more to all phenotypes generally. The more variety in the galaxy the more alive it feels. But I don't like the "cuties." Kind of an immersion breaker for me, so I use the mod that turns them off. Would like some "scaries." Maybe something similar to the chaos warp corrupted humans, where they are all veiny and have peeling skin and mange. Or a Predator analogue. Or Space Orcs, or Skeletor, or Mars Attacks, or Namek. A lot of the current portraits are just anthropomorphized animals. I want monsters out of nightmares. Wearing jumper suits.

I personally liked the cuties, but I feel they should just be regulated to DLc because for some, I realize it can be immersion breaking. As for creepies, I feel largely the same way, and there was a "Creepy" pack that came when you get I belive the Nova version of the game (may be wrong)

Arthropoid #14 is the Nova and Galaxy Edition bonus. Meh. I want MOAR. Hopefully ones that wear clothes though.

I'm not saying don't make cuties or if they should be in DLC or patch or whatever. I totally understand other people being absolutely delighted with them. Which is why I love that there the mod community has created so many mods, covering so many possible player preferences. More the better. But what I want is creepies.

Also, I enjoy every time them make nods to other works of fiction, like the flying monkeys, the vulcans/space elves, klingons, Humanoid #4 is clearly a nod to the Fifth Element, Molluscoid #2 is a nod to the Goa'uld from Stargate. So more of that is welcome.

Also, phenotypes that border on the more common phenotypes. This is outer space. The evolutionary paths of other planets could have taken all sort of drastically different paths than ours. So when I see a creature that doesn't fit into the normal orthodoxy, it feels appropriate to me. Like Mammalian #16 and #17 could be analogues to Platypuses and Echidnas, the only egg-laying mammals on earth. Or how Avian #9 and #13 could be analogues to Archaeopteryx, the evolutionary link between dinosaurs and birds.

Considering that for CK2 every expansion DLC included portraits with the expansion(though usually as a seperate dlc); I would be surprised if they didn't continue with this policy.

I want more alien portraits, also more clothing for aliens

Yeah but it's even more liekely to change than other stuff. They regularly look at statistics, and if I remember well, space elves (and more generally humanoid portraits) were the most used of all portraits. Releasing more "alien" alien portraits without including something people are asking for (either more humanoids, or one of the popular things like robotic variations) would be a bad move.

Now, I would love if they focused on bringing more variety to existing portraits, either on the basic level, or when you have subspecies or cyborgs. It would also be really cool if different pops from different planets developped different visual cultures (wearing different kinds of things depending on the climate of the planet they live on, for example).

I want a greenskin orc, giant canines, elven ears.

Here's an idea, probably not the first time it was proposed. But different colour packs for different planet type preferences. So like 4 shades of orangey/yellow/red for arid/desert. 4 blueish/white/purple for arctic. etc.

I'd love this. It might be too much work for them to justify to come up with some visual indicators for most traits (like making a bulkier and very bulkier version of each portrait for the strong and very strong perks) but little things like an eye-augment or a robotic tentacle would be great for the cyborgs.
