So ever since updating to 1.5 and buying the utopia dlc i have not been able to play a game for more than 20-25 years.

Once the game reaches a certain date the game freezes and then it crashes to the desktop. I have searched for any reports of this happening to anyone else but have had no success. I have loaded into the game about 20 times, reloading latest saves which are about a month before the date it crashes at.

So far i have tried:
  • Starting several new games with the same empire
  • Deleted all custom empires in case they were bugged, including outdated and formally modded empires, played as a default empire, watched in observe mode in fast forward, still crashed.
  • Made sure all mods werent enabled
  • Verified the the integrity of the cache
  • Uninstalled the game and reinstalled it
  • Updated to the BETA 1.5.1, no joy
  • I have sent reports off to paradox upon relaunching the game

Can anyone think of something I haven't tried to fix the problem. It appears to be unique to me as it wasnt covered in the beta patch.

Thanks

FIXED! I followed the advise of Elothian Below (in a different thread )and the game seems to be working now. I have observed a game for 35 years now on fast forward using at 15 ticks per turn to speed it up and i haven't experienced any crashes so i am happy to conclude its fixed.

The problem appeared to be as suggested by Elothian, that there was left over mod files messing with my game. In the Error file, it said something about wrong ship size and before the 1.5 update i was using mods that increased ship sizes.

So the Fix seems to be to delete the /documents/paradoxinteractive/stellaris file in my documents after uninstalling the game, reinstall, all previous saves that were broken remain broken, but a new game seems to work fine. Would also recommend making a new empire and deleting previous custom ones if you experience crashes with them.

I have had this EXACT same issue for two games now. The first I got to just past 10 years into the game, it was great I just had the Horizon Signal event for the very first time, but following the first crash, I wasn't able to get the game to continue again. The second I think I got the 30+ years but then the music stopped the screen flickered and boom, straight to desktop. I reloaded and was able to play for a month or two, then the same happened again, however this time I was unable to continue.

I sent my reports off (hope they help them fix it), never had a crash on this game before Utopia, so it must be something to do with the update.

I have uninstalled the game and was going to try again, but from your report I don't hold much hope...
