Inheriting existing wars when you take a new vassal will no longer break all your alliances or causes any stab hits.

I had alliances broken twice due to inheriting wars, so NO, it has not been fixed. Just fight someone with your allies, then DoW someone else who is already in a war with those you were fighting before (with the intention of vassalizing) within the 5-year truce period. You inherit the war BUT your allies will automatically be called in and, naturally, will refuse.

Though, I am not getting a stability hit.

I have a question.

Changelog says that the Steppe Nomads can no longer become Protectorates, but before the patch, while I was still playing with 1.4, Russia made Kazakh her Protectorate, so if I load my game now, will that agreement fall? Or it will continue? Is there something I can do about it?

If you load that game, Kazakh will still be a Protectorate of Russia. But if it loses Kazakh as a Protectorate, it will not be able to get it back as one again - it would need to vassalise it instead.

Teutonic Order has 41 Sum of Province Base Tax at the start of the game in 1444.
That 41 Base Tax translates into a 216% Vassalisation WS requirement, which after the 50% Mission discount is only 108%
Do you know the exact formula, how the necessary warscore for the force vassalisation is calculated?

I always hate to find myself in a war reading "102% warscore needed"...

Okay, so there is no simple adding the base tax before a war to see if the country is force-vassalisable in one war? Or did I miss something?

The Bloke,
thank you for this great guide.
I'm not sure if the question has been asked already but I don't want to read through all 8 pages so apologizes if this question has been asked before.

I am Savoy and have Milan as vassal. Milan has claims on Liguria, Modena and Corsica and a core in Brescia (owned by Venice). I conquered Liguria and feed Milan Liguria so I don't have to core the province myself (too expensive). Will Milan at some point change their relationship from Vassal to Hostile if I keep feeding it provinces? Milan grows stronger with every province I feed them. I plan to feed them Corsica Modena and Brescia, too once I conquered them.

Savoy is still a relative small country - I only annexed Provence but I have strong allies. So will Milan betty me on the long run if I make them stronger? I currently have +170 relations with them.

I hope someone can answer my question. Thanks!

My experience is that if you keep relations pretty good, then it's quite unlikely that they will go Hostile. You're feeding them territory, so it's unlikely that there are many or any territories that they Want to Conquer that you still have as your own. You currently have very good relations, which makes it very unlikely they will go Hostile. If you can, take it to +175 - there is an extra 50% reduction in risk at +175 (they are there for +50, 75, 100, 125, 150 and 175). At +200 there is no risk at all; they have to be Vassal at +200. So if you're really worried, max them out.

But personally I would not stress about it that much. I do not see much flip-flopping between Vassal and Hostile. When you have high relations, it appears to be fairly stable.

Milan never rebelled and so far I have diplo-annexed many countries and none ever went hostile or rebelled. So it's just the same as in 1.4.1 Only difference is that the HRE gets insanely mad when I complete the annexation of a vassal..

It's not exactly the same, neither vassals nor PUs ever rebelled in 1.4. Both will now in 1.5, but yes it is not a huge risk. Note that PU tends to be a bigger risk. One reason is that PUs are often larger/stronger, because you can suddenly get a big country in a PU. Eg England getting France under PU within 5 years of game start. France taken in the HYW very definitely will rebel soon, and unless/until you build up a big army and boost your relations with them a lot, they will often DOW for Independence as often as every five years (as soon as truce expires)

Vassals are more placid, but they are no longer completely subservient.

I don't know if this was in 1.4 as well but I can Enforce Peace on a defender of a war in which a protectorate started.

Ah cool, no I don't know if that was in 1.4 either. It's the same mechanic as how you join a Colonial Nation war that your own CN started.

So when your Protectorate starts a war, you are not auto-called (only when they are attacked are you called), but you can intercede. Yeah I like that! Thanks for the details.

I'm confused. If you enforce peace against your colonial nation won't you be at war with them? Which would make no sense so what is the result?
