I also like the bigger AE for bigger countries. It games where I'm a country like France it forces me to concentrate on things other than mainland expansion in the late game, like dismantling other empires, or stealing colonies in the New World, or trade disputes. I really don't want WC to be possible, so I hope taking away scaling AE can be optional

yeah, while it was the design we wanted, we realise that those who grow that big want to paint the map, and AE scaling just makes it impossible.

Its not so much the AE scaling that kills it, its the fact coalitions in general tend to slow the game to a crawl becasue their total warscore is much higher than 400% thus preventing a coalitioned country from extracting much concessions from a coalition in a peace deal, even if they won decisively.

IMO, AE should scale based on base tax, which will benefit large, poor countries but at the same time coalitions should have a warscore cap so that a winning coalition target could extract serious concessions from the coalition, and thus make a coalition actually risky.

Can this be modded back in? I really liked the scaling AE according to size for smaller nations; being able to annex stuff with no one caring as an OPM and then gradually having to worry more and more about how your big, scary neighbors are viewing your actions.

Perhaps have a scaled AE reduction for small nations, say under ~15 provinces?

Assuming everything remains the same, the entire game will now play as though you were an OPM, AE-wise.

IMO, AE should scale based on base tax, which will benefit large, poor countries but at the same time coalitions should have a warscore cap so that a winning coalition target could extract serious concessions from the coalition, and thus make a coalition actually risky.

I think this fix is aimed at making it feasible to manage AE well enough that coalitions don't form, rather than a total fix to coalitions, and with respect to that, I think it's actually a step too far. The scaling modifier should simply be 0.02 per province with a cap of 1.5 to 2, instead of the current 3.5 cap with constants. This will make it rather easy to avoid coalitions altogether.

Eh, I guess I wanted them to expand on peacetime, instead of making war easier again. Apparently EU4 will remain a wargame, instead of a game about the Modern Era. Oh, well.

I just checked my Ottoman game. Apparently I have 352 provinces in 1815.

So, for the Jihad Achievement we would need:
All of Afrika (163 provinces)
All of Asia (398 provinces)
40 provinces in Europe.

Ottomans for this one, no doubt.

Asia would need to be an all-out war with "all in coalition", preferably first removing the colonial powers to remove possible AE spill.

Oh My. So it's an early westernization + full scale colonization game, while conquering the rest of the known (sunni) world. Well, at least there's the 10% cheaper stab. modifier and +3% missionary strength. Perhaps if you PU the Ottomans... :) :)

A scaling factor for the province count AE modifier is exposed in defines.lua, but if they take out the modifier, that probably won't do anything.

I think they will just change the parameter (AE_ATTACKER_PROVINCE) to 0, and leave the option open for players who want to retain the feature. Though this claim will need the confirmation from the developers.

PMSL. I do love these boards. People clamor for coalitions to be nerfed, they get nerfed, then more people clamor that its too much.
