what will you be looking for when you fire up 1.4 3 days from now? What will you be disappointed if you don't see? What are your expectations?
I'm expecting better AI and end to operation Libyan human flood and an end to operation Attack all neighbors at the same time from Germany. I'm looking forward to the improved air interface(after what I saw I couldn't call it an overhaul) and better battle planner AI

Lower priority for Africa and Germany not stalling near the Baltic states are my two main expectations for the AI.

Also looking forward to trying the new air interface but I don't think that's going to be a change that really makes you go "oh man it's so awesome" - it's more like "ah good, now it's not so bad anymore!" A definitely good change, but one that is more about reducing frustration than adding fun.

I might start modding a bit with the equipment conversion. See if I can make it so that you build engines, then "convert" with different kinds of factories into tanks and aircraft.

If your hoping that the AI won't declare war on all its neighbours without taking into account its current war status I think your going to be disappointed.

I'd like to see the ai being better at equipment management but I think I'm going to be disappointed.

what will you be looking for when you fire up 1.4 3 days from now?
Decent games with competent majors and key minors. In other words the games that happen only on 2-3 TS servers and rarely even there.

What will you be disappointed if you don't see?

The aforentioned games.

What are your expectations?

A lot of low hour players with big mouths who loudly assure Germany or the host that they know how to play Hungary and Romania and then proceed to lose the game for the Axis and waste 5-6 hours of the lives of around 20 other people. That is, if the host doesn't kick them off said key minors.

And then it's Lobby Simulator IV again (takes 2-4h to setup a decent game in HoI4), waiting for those competent players on key nations.

TS: ts.nordicreservation.com or ts.speed5.net. Especially the latter normally has a good 10+ 1000-3000h players playing on it in European evenings, enough to get some good competitive games going without having to fear one bad player ruining the entire game for one side. I host on the former TS, often when speed5 isn't running a game.

In my experience Discord is usually used by people new to the game and quite frankly, by children. I imagine such an environment would be good if you're hungover and want a chill game where you can pull off some meme'y exploits since they are almost never banned in Discord games, but beyond that I view them as a waste of time. I mean I'd rather wait a bit longer in the lobby to get a decent game going than play a trash one for 4-6 hours.

It belongs to when do you think someone is competent, and what type of game you want to play.
Fulman is right, for a historic setup there are only a few servers which are regularly hosting and it takes hours to set it up. Good thing is most regular players are well known by now.

slightly more competent AI, which is good enough so that they can implement new mechanics with 1.5 maybe a new civil war, spy or guerilla mechanic.

lol people really have the own heads up there arses. There are plenty of non cancer games. The comment about discord is funny. It no different than team speak. It better in some ways. Jesus historical games are not hard to make if you host a proper game with a good rule set and people who follow rules. Hours mean Jake shit too. I've seen people with 1000 plus be dog shit. I've seen people with 200 hours do a hell of a lot. Instead of getting on your high horse and saying this is who is good, this is how to play search for other players. Teach each other the meta and most importantly have fun.

When I read the changelog of 1.4, my expectations rose quite a bit because apparently not only the interfaces for air warfare got an overhaul, but also some mechanics involving specific air missions have now been implemented. Among with all these minor tweaks for the AI there might be some improvement in terms of realism. Maybe if the naval mechanics got an overhaul, too, the game might be in a state where i can recommend it to my friends (i never recommended any hoi to my friends so far though I played 2 excessively and 3 a little)

Ah.. a shame. Oh well, guess I'll have to learn a while before then. Wouldn't even feel comfortable playing Uruguay in such a setting. Too much pressure.

Number one expectation, major improvement in air warfare.

Especially in how we monitor how our air forces are doing in a combat zone and how to improve them. I dont know how many times in the past I studied the Air zone combat tallies totally confused as to why i lost 800 aircraft in one month.

I always disliked too that i couldn't tell of the total of 1600 fighters and bombers i faced in an air zone, what the aircraft were (Hawker Hurricanes vs Hurricanes Mk II) or of what nations owned them (400 French fighters, 800 UK fighters, 400 UK bombers). That way I can plan better. My pilots see what they facing, i should at least have an estimate based on encryption. And oh hey we have seen ME 262s in the air or Mk III Mustang now, etc.

Beyond that, an AI that can run the majors well and some minors. Hopefully Germany is done invading the Maginot in January and France is done attacking the Siegfried line in Sept 1939 when there is a major German Army and forts present. And hopefully the Sino-Japanese war is slower, as well as the Spanish Civil War. And the UK and USA can plan a late game counter, like Normandy, not too soon, but at the right time and a well planned one.

My expectations are extremely low after watching youtubers already play the game. It looks like not much has really changed with the A.I even with the change in Africa.

My expectations are high. I know I will like the changes.

It seems most of the experienced players already moved on to mods and stuff (e.g. I heard No Mans Land mod is great but I haven't tried it yet), but I tend to stick with vanilla in ALL my paradox titles.

I expect the AI to do better on land, now that front shuffling has been tackled with the additional template improvements, I expect germany to do a lot better. I don't expect the constant naval invasion spam to be fixed. It might be toned down a little through the side effect of other fixes, but I don't hold my breath on seeing a well planned coordinated Invasion.

The air war... hmmm, looks like most of it are UI changes and some tweaks. I'm on the fence on this one, so I'll come back on this after I actually played a game with it.

The improvement on front shuffling is huge and i hope it is truly fixed as well as the distribution of forces along a front.

I have been annoyed lately at my Siegfried line because my frontline AI always puts 6 divs in one territory and 2 in another instead of equal distribution. So i would micromanage and move them, and to keep them manually moved i would break them from the order then have to remember to add them later.

The first time I noticed this, France exploited this weakness and broke my lines into Austria from one of these weak territories defended by i guess 2 or 3 divisions.

I hope this is fixed too
