Description:I've been doing some testing of search values and their impacts for the naval mod I'm working on and noticed something that seemed a bit odd - in that fleet size didn't seem to impact on the search value of a fleet beyond the impact of the averaging of the search values for the ships in that fleet.
For example, the 14 DD_1 Western Approaches Fleet that ENG start with has a surface/detection chance of 21.0%/52.5% (in this case when on a patrol mission), as does half of that fleet, as does 1 DD_1 from that fleet. Including ships with lower detection values in a fleet lowers the overall detection of that fleet (so, for example, adding the 2 BB_1s and CA_1s from the Reserve Fleet to the remaining 1 DD_1 from the Western Approaches Fleet lowers the detection chance to 14.2%/14.7%, despite the fact that the DD_1 is still there and has friends to help.
Beyond the 'add more ships to the fleet and potentially have a harder time finding the enemy' thing, it also feels a bit inconsistent with the idea behind fleets on patrol being spread out and searching. That said, I have no idea if WAD or not. If WAD, apologies and sorry to bother you

DLC's: All except Sabaton.
Mods: Non active.
Reproduction Steps:
1. Start a game of HoI4 with 1.4.1 as ENG
2. Select the British 'Western Approaches Fleet' (it's located at Plymouth, in South-Western Britain)
3. Set it to patrol the English Channel
4. Set time to 5 and advance a day or two for the fleet to get on station.
Observe the surface detection value of 21.0 per cent and the sub detection value of 52.5 per cent.
5. Split the fleet in half
6. Send the non-patrolling half out of the region.
7. Let time advance a day or two.
Observe the surface detection value of 21.0 per cent and the sub detection value of 52.5 per cent.
8. Create a sub-fleet from the fleet of 7 DDs in the English Channel of 1 DD.
9. Leave/set the 1 DD to patrol the English Channel.
10. Send the other six DDs away from the region, doesn't matter where.
11. Let time advance a day or two.
Observe the surface detection value of 21.0 per cent and the sub detection value of 52.5 per cent.
12. Select the reserve fleet (in Southampton) and create a new fleet from all of the BBs (there should be 2) and CAs (there should be 2) in it.
13. Merge that new fleet of 2 BBs and 2 CAs with the 1 DD fleet patrolling in the English Channel
14. Let time advance for a day or two.
Observe the surface detection value of 14.2 per cent and the sub detection value of 14.7 per cent (gratuitous pic included below
