So I engaged an Awakened Empire's huge fleet. When the fight began, the strike craft were deployed but they started moving in the opposite direction of my fleet. After a while they turned, and started moving against my fleet.

The save is taken just before the fight.

I had this happen to me once while attacking a Dimensional Horror. I thought it was perhaps just some gravitational thing from the guardian, but now when I see this bug-report i'm not as sure.

This has happened to me numerous times, frankly I was just lazy to write up a bug report.

I've got a hunch it's because the initial range of the battle starts outside the Strikecraft's engagement range.
EDIT:
I've set up a quick test with BOS on, but that isn't important.

Two battleships are engaging another, one with Cruise missiles at range 120.
Strikecraft engagement range is 130

Seems to work fine for the initial engagement.

Now for test no 2 I have reduced the Strikecraft engagement range to 20.
Again everything is ok.

I then reduced the return and the engagement range down to 20.
I thus get this result:

It's looking like the return range being lower than the current range causes this issue.

EDIT2:

Shifting the return range up to 260 should be fine to accommodate for the highest ranges in the game.
