1) yes
2) no

I should note, with 1.3, the game stopped crashing regularly on GNU/Linux. Previously, it crashed about once every twenty minutes, now I've been playing for a few hours straight without issues. Thank you Paradox!

I just installed the patch. The rivers are back alright but my provinceborders are still bugged (in the joints, graphics is misplaced).
Also, the main menu said version 1.2 still?

Edit: Yes, it appears to be the old version, although I've patchedit thrice now.

This patch has been a huge step backwards in term of performance. It is basically unplayable after mid-1941.

This game is such a mess.

I still feel technology and balance is skewed. Countries like Belgium and the Netherlands remain gimped down horribly. The Dutch don't even have airplane techs which they did have in 1.0 and HoI2, and they posses cruisers and subs more advanced their their tech levels are! And that's not because we purchased them from Britain or something, the Netherlands were quite capable to reproduce the weapons and systems they put on their existing ships in RL. Heck, Yugoslavia has Fokker planes in '36 when the country of origin can't even make the most basic kind of interceptor! In terms of theoretical and practical experience, the country also got lumped in with other minors. And the leadership points are so meager for the Dutch and others that they'll be playing catch-up to what they SHOULD have known all along, while Germany and America get plenty of it to do all kinds of neat stuff that countries weaker than France won't be able to afford since they're all so incredibly nerfed. You have to be one of the Great Powers in HoI3 just to enjoy the game, and that requires too much micromanagement.

Also, Is anybody experiencing this? Everytime i click a province everything that you can build goes to full strength then goes to whatever it really is. I am also having some serious problems on clicking on units. I click one unit, then click the same place and 9/10 times i get a province around the people i want.

Changing the counter distance solved it for me.

Ugh, this game is still unplayable for me. I remember HoI2 was buggy at launch but I was still able to enjoy myself and play a thrilling first game as Germany. HoI3 however......last time I ever buy a PI game at launch. :(

From the sticky announcing 1.3:

- Tech tree entries will no longer show localised names on the button, as playability suffered too much from that you did not know which was "Small Arms" and what level certain names where

- Non-localised techname is now shown in the current research as well.

So for the research interface yes.

Oh dear, I like flavour.....Oh well.

[not that i've read the rest of the thread, but...]

if you look in the brigade details thing, where it lists all the equipment a unit has, i believe the flavour names are still there. they're just not on the research screen any more because it was causing confusion. [unless they changed that too since i last saw something about it]

Correct, the flavour technames are still visible in the game.

:D You seem to forget, that the community cried about every Paradox Game, as it came out....and over most parts of the full first year. And at some games...even more.

Well i am since 2000 here....and i see this "fun" again and again. And yes...i also remeber the same discussions as HOI2 came out....and even a year later. There they said "oh HOI1 is so much better...lets go back to it!!"
Sure HoI1 was at that point....but as HoI1 came out...it was even worse.

Paradox Games are like expensive wine.....they get better with time. Most games need at least 1 year.....2-3 patches....some even a Addon or 2 to work fine.

So i only accept a crying from Paradox Noobs.....guys that bought their first Paradox game. All others should know the prezedure.....and acceptet it. Hell if u dont...then why u dont wait until the Game is out on nice price for 10-20$ ??

Yes i know what all say.....a company has to sell a fully polished game. Yes nice theory. But simply isnt what we see in reality. The complexer a game is....the more bugs and also gamebreaking bugs it has in it. And Paradox Games r very complex.

So next time.....dont cry...wait a year before u buy a new Paradox game. Thats how it works here. U accept it or not. Well i did...and have to live with it. I wanted it that way. At other games (like EU3) i didnt wanted that game so much that i had to buy it with 1.0. So i waited long enough...bought it for 20 bucks, and got it with 2 Addons inclusive. Fully playable. Works like old wine....delicious.

Maybe i will do same with Vicky2. Depends how much i will play HoI3 in Summer of 2010. I bet it will be good playable then.

HOI2 had bugs when released, as well as EU3, Rome, etc, but they weren't as glaring and gamebraking as those in HOI3. At least game performance of EU3 and HOI2 was good, while HOI3 after 1941 begins to lag so it is practically unplayable. Not to mention the fact, that one of the most addressed and features of HOI2 (for instance) was an unlimited naval range. Well guess what? A couple of years and a new installement but the unlimited AI naval range is still here. Only that is now clasified as a bug (which naturally hasn't been addressed so far) while in HOI2 it was seen as a flaw of a game design. PI advertised and promised, that they will (and that they actually did) fix unlimited naval range in HOI3 and what did they do? Well, unlimited naval range is now a bug, not a feature deriving from enigine limitations. But in any case, IT IS STILL HERE!!! This is unacceptable and it is only an example, there are numerous other similar flops in HOI3.

In some cases HOI3 is even worse and/or is a step backward compared to HOI2. For example, why can't I see who is a foreign minister of France if Im playing as Germany for example? Why can't I see election results and distibuiton of political (aprliamnt) power of my neighbours/allies, not to mention at least some of their laws and politics?
Why can't I see which tech. my enemies are using? I'm fighting against SU and all I can see is that they are defending with an armour division. Why can't I see which tanks are they using? I don't have a clue what their tech. level is. The same goes for interceptors, bombers, ... A lot of WW2 tech was developed to counter enemies advancement of their equipment, but in HOI3 I can't even see what I'm up against?
Even HOI2 had this for christ sake...
