That's the checksum the game calculated for me as well when I updated my steam version manually.
However, it turned out that users of other versions, who did not update the progam by hand, got different checksums. Hence, I reinstalled a vanilla 1.2 version and now wait for the official steam update to arrive (which will probably be this morning/early afternoon).

I want the game to be clean and neat without the danger of crashing in 1948 a few years short of total Shanxi hegemony.... ;)

Best wishes

Sc

I will wait until reports come out that 1.3 has been released on Steam and then I will re-install everything.

Until then I will play on my current version and start to get some practice playing a major power.

minestopped working as soon as i installed 1.3 it gone all tits up, i re-installed 3 times re-downloaded the patch 3 times and still the same, am i missing something?

I have the same problem. The game worked fine for me until I installed the 1.3 patch. Now I only see a couple seconds of the initial loading screen before it crashes back to the desktop. Suggestions?

Damnit, couldn't you have waited one more week paradox, til exams were over?
But seriously, this patch seems good and from the generally positive response appears to have made the game so much better.

Also, Is anybody experiencing this? Everytime i click a province everything that you can build goes to full strength then goes to whatever it really is. I am also having some serious problems on clicking on units. I click one unit, then click the same place and 9/10 times i get a province around the people i want.

I had this problem in RC I played .. can't remember which. Very annoying, but I found that zooming out or in a bit helped.

I had KZVE but when I deleted a modded copy I'd left in the paradox folder the checksum reverted to JYVE.

Looking good Houston - no flag problems, trading much more possible - happy bunny atm. Oh yeah, weather patterns looking much better as well.

This is "normal behaiviour" for 1.3. Was same for several handsoffs at weekend with last 1.3 beta i tested. So i bet a Mod has to change something of that...or we have to wait for 1.4 now. That arent Gamebreakers....so Johan decided that 1.3 can get out for the masses.

I think personally, that most of this described things can be modded out with some scripts. Hopefully a modder gives us something like that soon.
Maybe we should start a new thread about that one. :D

Hm... so now we are waiting for a 1.4 to actually get a decent working game where:
- AI research and production are sorted out
- If you play historically you get a game that is at least close to historical(so - Japan actually dows USA, USA joining the war eventually, Germany doesn't DOW half of Europe on the same day, historical Barbarossa, proper divison of provinces in case of Bitter peace, UK invading Italy, at least some combat in Africa, Japan is back to not defending the borders with shanxi. And still gets obliterated, ....)
-unlimited naval range bug addressed
-fighters actually hurt unescorted bombers
-no more stupid AI decisions (2 Belgium/Australian/Dutch,... divisons invading German fortress Europe, Manchuko (spelling) sending 20+ milita divisons to France, 200+ brigades just waiting in Washington D.C. ...)
-you don't have to play around with same TAG files and manually resize them, copy them from I don't know where etc., just to see the bloody flags properly
-some weird dev. decisions like removing flavour names in tech. screen. We are playing a strategy game, not a FPS. Besides if my memory serves me well, there was a tooltip (displayed if you hover over a tech name with a mouse pointer) which nicely told you in which category every tech. belongs and its level).

This game is a one big flop from PI, even after couple of months it is still not playable as it should be. Excuses that we(you) should wait for more patches are silly, they shouldn't release a game in that state in the first place. And they should patch major flaws in one or two big patches. This is now the fourth patch and things still aren't working as intended. The excuse that modders will improve the game and remove some of the flaws is even more silly. This is devs. work, not modders.

Oh and BTW, since I know what a 90% of replies will be. My game is not registered since I didn't bought it. And it looks like I won't because it is unfinished. I've played it quite extensively on my cousin's computer (since he doesn't play it anymore) so I'm not just talkiing out of my head.

I hope vicky 2 will be better...

@ spricar. i agree totally.
the problem already starts with the basic setup like the map, nations etc... PI has simply neglected their research and refused to correct the situation afterward.

for example i just released egypt as puppet at the start of a vanilla game because i saw it on a 1936 map and found several historical facts which classify it as a puppet state. ok PI decided to give it a revolter status instead (to avoid game issues with the suez channel probably) but i was amazed when i compared with belgium.
turns out egypt got 4.8 leadership assigned where belgium has 3.16 and infantry techs up to 1932 where belgium seems to have missed WWI -which was fought in their back yard the whole time-: not even 1918 technology
ok i could understand that egypt 'inherits' some more advanced stuff from the brits but european minors are just portrayed as third world countries in game (the difference is mainly a higher production in general).
i'd say that's a bad start for a simulation game which pretends to be somewhat 'historical'. makes one wonder about alterations in later patches too when the base setup never changes.

I'd changed default flags with my own. Then I'd entered into the game and i'd see that there were default flags. So, I'd recalled something about cache and then I'd deleted the whole map/cache/... Not flag* only as was mentioned somewhere here.

And now hoi3 starts the way too slow... Don't see the menu yet. I think it's recreating the whole cache... 7000+ files... Is it OK? Or should I completely reinstall the game?

As a Steam user, do I have to wait for them to update it or can I apply the patch to the game just like that?

Hi,

I bought my game on Steam, but I blocked steam updates and am using the installer linked by Johan instead. It will install the update in Program Files/Paradox Interactive/ or something like that though, so you need to copy the files to your game directory inside the Steam directory.

Only thing is, for some reason, the first time I had to do that (1.2), I first had to launch the game, then quit, then run patch. Else game was not detected by the patch and it couldn't be installed.

I installed 1.3 this way, it works fine, and I have JYVE checksum.

Hope this helps.

Cant agree more, It seems as though PI and the the other supporters cant admit the game is busted and wont work. By now the game should at least be playable...it isnt and it stinks IMHO... Back to HOI2 a great game....

You dropped the ball on HOI3 PI......

When 1.1 came out I played an Italian game up until I made it to Suez (5 days at my pace) and then quit. I didn't touch the game until 1.2 came out and then I played a game as Germany until the fall of France (4 days), and then quit and haven't touched it since. This time I'll give it a shot as Japan. Let's hope the game is decent enough this time that I might actually make it to a war with the Allies.

You dropped the ball on HOI3 PI......
:D You seem to forget, that the community cried about every Paradox Game, as it came out....and over most parts of the full first year. And at some games...even more.

Well i am since 2000 here....and i see this "fun" again and again. And yes...i also remeber the same discussions as HOI2 came out....and even a year later. There they said "oh HOI1 is so much better...lets go back to it!!"
Sure HoI1 was at that point....but as HoI1 came out...it was even worse.

Paradox Games are like expensive wine.....they get better with time. Most games need at least 1 year.....2-3 patches....some even a Addon or 2 to work fine.

So i only accept a crying from Paradox Noobs.....guys that bought their first Paradox game. All others should know the prezedure.....and acceptet it. Hell if u dont...then why u dont wait until the Game is out on nice price for 10-20$ ??

Yes i know what all say.....a company has to sell a fully polished game. Yes nice theory. But simply isnt what we see in reality. The complexer a game is....the more bugs and also gamebreaking bugs it has in it. And Paradox Games r very complex.

So next time.....dont cry...wait a year before u buy a new Paradox game. Thats how it works here. U accept it or not. Well i did...and have to live with it. I wanted it that way. At other games (like EU3) i didnt wanted that game so much that i had to buy it with 1.0. So i waited long enough...bought it for 20 bucks, and got it with 2 Addons inclusive. Fully playable. Works like old wine....delicious.

Maybe i will do same with Vicky2. Depends how much i will play HoI3 in Summer of 2010. I bet it will be good playable then.

I haven't got time to read through all the replies, so two quick questions:
1) Are the rivers back?
2) Are people still having issues with broken borders between provinces?

1) yes
2) no

I should note, with 1.3, the game stopped crashing regularly on GNU/Linux. Previously, it crashed about once every twenty minutes, now I've been playing for a few hours straight without issues. Thank you Paradox!
