First of all, play Germany on Normal/Normal (I guess, I don't know how to change the difficulty levels)
I installed the 1.3 patch right over the 1.2 (no uninstall of 1.2) and I had some customized icons. They all passed fine, and all seems to be working fine.
On trading -
I love that I am being offered more complex deals now. It's not just resource 'a' for resource 'b' anymore, it's mix of all kinds of things. Trades are also not quite as long lasting. Instead of many of them seemingly running forever, I seem to be getting many more that run for a while, then are cancelled as the country offers me a slightly different deal within a day or so....
On events -
I took out Hungary, and for the first time in a long time (well, playing 1.2) Italy did not DOW me. When Munich came up, annexed, then did the partition with Hungary, and voila, there was Czech back in the provinces that would have been Hungarian....
Seems as though the trigger to France and Poland attacking you is much more sensitive than before. Was very few times that they hit me before Danzig even when I was being a brute, now have been hit twice in three tries with attacks only on Hungary, Yugoslavia, and Romania....
On Ministers
I'm having fun moving from minister to minister as I feel I need different things researched. Trying to time out the research so the switchovers are made right before the dissent negating events. It actually is making a difference, though which is nice and brings a lot of the other ministers into play (especially, it seems early on, the +5% IC, +10% industrial research ones).
on Gameplay -
So far, the AI is interesting. Seems as though the Hungarian unit strength was ramped up - not quite as much as a total walkover as before.
I still wonder why, if Danzig was so important as to go to war over, why it is never defended. I know that the AI looks at it and says that anything that goes in there will get crushed, but it makes the event seem rather silly to me if they let you take it without the least fight.....
Fleets seem to be acting much better, as they seem to be better spread out and in more startegic positions (playing with the fog of war, so can't verify this).
Air units do seem to be much more important, and interceptor/fighter production as Germany seems to be a must, especially if the Allies will go to war easier than they did before (see above).
Haven't had my first big battle sending the U-boat fleet (type IXs) on Naval Combat missions yet. It will be interesting to see how they do - if they will still wind up sinking significant capital ships or if they will get wiped out....
Great work guys. I see many more hours of just trying to figure out the nuances.....
