1.24 Has rolled around and it looks like a great time to play in the Far East with the recent additions to the area. I'm planning a Manchu run but I'm stuck on who to choose. I'm thinking Haixi is best atm, as I can't get Jianzhou to work, and Yeren is isolated from good conquest.

Who do you think is the best pick?

Jianzhou is the strongest(and the one that historically united the manchu) but you will almost certainly have to deal with Korea early on and they are richer and have a larger army. You should be able to beat them if use build cavalry with the Tribe estate action or raise banners, just don't fight them in the mountains. Also don't delay Korea starts with a 6/5/6 king so they WILL beat you to mil tech 4.

Beating Ming as Manchu is really easy this patch. Just wait for him to enact a mandate reform, then refuse tribute until he breaks it. With the shock and fire malus plus a tech advantage you can easily beat him. He can't get any mercs to so that's a problem you won't have to worry about.

How do you get a tech advantage over Ming?

Contrary to what everyone else is saying I find beating Korea spectacularly easy. Just fight them in your own territory. Yes even in the mountains. They keep sending their stacks in at under full morale. Be ready to pounce on any smaller stacks or stacks without full morale. The only province of theirs you want to siege is the border province furthest to the east. When you have about 50 warscore and you feel comfortable that they've been worn down enough you can siege the fort province. Don't try this too early as this is where you are most vulnerable.

Doing this I can consistently beat Korea in the very first war and take half the country.

What I can't do is beat Ming. I've tried declaring war as early as I can. I got wrecked.

I tried getting huge and got as far as Eastern Russia before ending tributary. I got crushed.

THe only thing I haven't tried is what the older guides say which is declaring before they hit mil tech 6.

The Manchu strat that has been around since MoH is raise the Banners and dow before tech 6 and when they have very low mandate. The recent 1.24 has made low mandate much worse for Ming now.

Jianzhou is best. Get that 1 day banners and keep up your force limit and Korea won't dare attack you. Rival other Manchu nations and Korea, then ally Kochin NO ROYAL MARRIAGE! If they ask you to help them with anything at all say no. Remember to become Ming's Tributary.
Then take the mission to unite the Jurchens. Then Kill Haixi. Then kill Yeren. Remember to only core the provinces needed to form Manchu. Also do not ever raze Manchu lands. After killing Yeren break alliance with Kochin. Then Kill Buryat while waiting for Korchin truce to go up. Then Kill then ofc. Then kill Mongolia/Oriats. At this point you should have 300 dev. Get royal with Ming if you wish, since this will prevent Ming from declaring outright. Wait for Unguarded Frontier. Either Mingsplosion or easy Ming to eat up. Form Qing and get free claims.

For ideas first one is administration. This along with Manchu ideas and eternal claims on China will make coring piss easy.
