[1.23.0] unable to play IronMan with achievements enabled

Hello Paradox,

I have a problem since the patch. I'm unable to play EU4 IronMan to chase achievements. If i start a game, the achievements button is grayed out, the tooltip is saying that i must be logged into steam to do it. if i'm trying to load a save, the "play" button (i forgot the name) is saying that the save belongs to another username or that i need to be logged into steam to be able to get achievements.

This is really annoying, EU4 works perfectly on my desktop i have setup at work (yea, i play EU4 at work too, you're not the only ones ). At home, i can't chase any achievement, nor can i continue my saves from work.

I kept playing like this in the past 18-20 months. more than 2400 hours in total.

I also noticed something extra: F12 screenshots (steam's) doesn't work. i have to use F11 to get screenshots in game.

I've checked the integrity of the files, using Steam.
I've uninstalled EU4, reinstalled it. didn't work.
I've uninstalled steam while deleting EU4 along my 600Gb of other games/saves/mods and reinstalled EU4. it worked one night (yesterday) and today i'm back to square one.
I don't use antivirus software other than basic AV protection that comes with Win10.

Hi, @SoCCo. This sounds like a connectivity issue with Steam.
I'm not so good at these things (my area is bugs within the game) so moving this thread to Technical Support.

Please do a full **clean** re-install of Steam and game:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-EU4
- exit the Steam app entirely
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/EU4 AND Documents/Paradox/EU4 folders
In particular make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam EU4 or Documents EU4 locations, before installing again.

- delete everything in the Steam folder EXCEPT steam.exe and the SteamApps folder
- run steam.exe to rebuild all that
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add steam.exe and eu4.exe to the Exceptions list of your antivirus app
- start the game with no mods active and test

Come to think about it, are you using the Task Bar to start the game?
There is a known issue where games started from the Task Bar does not talk with Steam as they should.

If you are starting it from the Task Bar, try starting the game from Steam instead and tell me if these issues goes away.
If not, I hope reinstalling the game will help.

Hi @AndrewT i followed all steps and now it works to continue my saves. I can tell you that i've already did this before i started this thread. I would like to ask, if possible, please leave the thread open, as unresolved, for few more days. i will tell you next Monday, no later than 20:00 CET if it the problem came back or not. is that fine?

Come to think about it, are you using the Task Bar to start the game?

wow. i was doing that from the taskbar. Should i give it a test, what happens if i start from taskbar compared with normal through steam?
