Nearly double. ~25 to ~40. I think it's warranted, but Japan was already the densest part of the East Asian map, so I'm hoping its neighbors get more new provinces than the handful we've seen.

There are 13 new provinces. I think.

All right, now looking at the whole thing, it all looks really good. Shimotsuke, Ugo and Tango are surprise adds, I'm rather disappointed Kyoto, Rikuzen, Suruga and Etchu weren't split, the Shogunate still being around is disheartening, Chikugo really shouldn't be in Hizen, Harima seems a little on the small side (though that might just be an issue of perception) and Ise seems to have taken a bit out of Kii, sea tiles seem to have been reworked for the better (here's hoping that Sanriku is inland sea now) and overall it just looks much better. There's stuff that can still be worked, but yeah; it's a really good revision.

(I'm hoping now that Japanese cultures have been further split, and hopefully the tradenode.)

25 to 39, not counting Hokkaido. Still an absolutely huge leap compared to the like 5 we saw in China and Manchuria, and 0 in Korea.

Damn, I hadn't even noticed those. The new sea setup is a lot better, it's gonna be a lot harder to blockade the Japanese coast.

Hoping we'll see the Korea bay split into two with the Bohai Sea, and then the Yellow Sea province split in two as well.

I don't believe Korea has gotten any new provinces, so I imagine they're saving it for last.

Absolutely. Especially now that Japan's gotten a division.

Let's see, I see Hyuga, Higo, Hizen (which oddly now has Chikugo), Iwami, Bizen, Iyo, Kii and Tango of all provinces. Kyoto still isn't divided, but I'm overjoyed regardless.

We don't know yet. Hopefully a tributary system

Also hoping for a reworked Shogunate system. More provinces unfortunately does not fix the problems inherent with the current Japanese mechanics :/

Y'know, I had to pause in my reading and stare at "Takanobu Ryuzoji" for like 5 seconds before I swapped the two names around in my head and finally understood it. Not that putting the first name first is wrong, it just messed with my mind.

I'm really glad to see the Japan map get some love. It's never looked that interesting to me before, as it was in EU4.

I'm really glad to see the Japan map get some love. It's never looked that interesting to me before, as it was in EU4.

Sorry about that, I just prefer the clan name last.

(It's particularly helpful as most people aren't familiar with pre-modern Japanese naming conventions - when I was a kid and first saw Ieyasu in Civ IV, I actually thought Tokugawa was his first name.)

Before the last patch, they showed a version of Scandinavia with new provinces. Then a few days later they showed even more provinces added. Hopefully Korea and China get boosted a bit more, plus the extra provinces that the north Asia suggestion thread talked about.

I'm happy that Japan is getting the biggest update. It was by far the most dynamic Chinese country in this era.
