Um...you seriously believe this? ROFL, and I on the other hand, simply refuse to pay more money just to buy into some sense of eliteness...just my point of view. I commend however the "gold hatters" for thier desire to betatest the patch content. I wouldnt have the paitence for that. Its also good you note Paradox is in the business of making money...since alienating customers can hurt the bottom line.

Had I bought the CE edition, I would be somewhat pissed if Paradox did not put me in a superior position simply because I bought a more expensive product :)

Some people seem to forget that Paradox still is a company supposed to be making a profit and computer games being nothing altruistic but rather products that enable those profits.

Up, how are they alienating you? You chose not to pay extra for the hassle of beta testing new stuff. That's your right.

They offered 2 levels of purchase for the game. Regular and Extra Nifty. It was announced months in advance that there would be 2 levels. Then they announced an easy enough way to get the Extra Nifty content by buying direct from them.

I just checked, and General Motors hasn't alienated any of their Chevrolet customers by charging extra for a Cadillac.

I have to applaud Paradox for putting up with the most whiny customer base of all time. If you look at forums of game companies that provide very little post-release support, there isn't even half of the negativity found around here.

Been reading these forums for a long time now…
Along the last year, now and then, this question comes to my mind:
When will this "thing" of D's, silver/gold helmets (or whatever) backfire on Paradox?

Maybe it will, maybe it won’t...
I feel its just one of those ideas coming from a marketing persona, maybe with a misjudge market audience, or yet... with the judgment spot on; only future will tell ;)

As for me, this all thing missed me by miles... as a long time customer, I "only" want quality and honesty; if I'm happy, I will come back, if not... bye.

TBH most of the arguments here seem a little odd. Of course you should get something more if you buy a more expensive CE or LE version of a game. Makes sense to me.

My main issue is that I'd like the ability to upgrade my silver cap to a gold one without buying another game entirely. I shouldn't have to buy another entire game simply because the CE wasn't released on the stated release date and so the only copy of the game available was the regular edition.

ROFL! whiney? dont have half the negativity found here? This IS the most civil forum ive visited to date. Go check out the Mark of Chaos forums for example...heck even the mods are bashing the game.

At any rate id refrain from calling others whiney just because you dont agree with thier point of view. As long as people can remain civil...anything can be discussed within reason.

If I dont feel buying the CE was for me, for whatever reason, the moon for example wasnt full that month, that is my choice, if I decide it wasnt for me because it didnt provide value to "me" in respect to what CE offered verses the additional cost so be it.

If I precieve that there is inclusion and exclusion based of the CE verses the standard copy, yes its quite likely I would feel excluded to some degree. Do I care in all honesty? Not really...its the point of the matter.

Also I assume I bought the same game you did...didnt I? You got some extra bells and whistles in the box, good for you. But it is the same game is it not? Also your example dosnt bear up, your comparing this to a chevy and cadillac? Id say we both bought the Yugo here, and you got free floormats and a pine scent hanger for your rear view mirror. Thats about it.

The real issue here...is that people feel excluded from the patch process, in respect to information, what is to be and not to be included and so on. Yes we all also know the mantra, its ready when its ready, so I wait.

I thought I had a rusty iron cap.

I pay the bottom dollar myself. I don't want to pay to test a game or get a cute gold hat. Nor do I think it silly if someone else will pay it. All in choice. I bought a Jeep liberty instead of a Jeep Commander because there is a cost to be paid for the cool Commander but I am very comfortable with my liberty. But hats off to the guy that wanted the higher price.

However the forums themselves can be annoying around here. There is this click that jumps people for posting and it is supported by the company which I find unacceptable. If I want to ask a question then I will if you dont want to see it don't click on it. If the forums can't handle the traffic then upgrade them.

Nothing pisses me off more then to pay for a game go to the company and ask a question and have 50 fanboys who are arse kissing jump in the thread and start acting like someone cares what their opinion is. Self importance is really pathetic looking.

Unfortunately "extra nifty" was not available when the game first came out, and some of us were too impatient to wait.

It sure would be nice if we had an option to upgrade...

You would think they would be happy to take your 10 or 20 bucks. :)

But then there may be some license thing with the keys.

Of course you could upgrade if want to pay for it.

Why is it that every computer game forum always has a car analogy? :D

Anyway, I have to admit that the whole CE-thing is a little annoying to me as well. I had to badger a certain gamestore here in Alaska for weeks before getting a regular copy, much less a CE copy.

I don't begrudge the Gold-hats getting the nifty strategy guide or getting to beta-test the new patch. However the idea of a separate forum with increased attention from and access to the developers for a certain subset of the customer base was not the greatest of ideas. Communication with developers is valued by computer gamers. Parcelling out that communication based on whether those customers placed pre-orders months before the game came out or were lucky enough to not be screwed over by Paradox's dodgy distributors doesn't seem to make sense to me.

To further the car analogy, it isn't like the Chevy owners are annoyed because the Caddy owners have OnStar. It's like the Chevy owners don't have a warranty because GM charged them extra for it, or they went to several Chevy dealerships and none of them had it, and now it's too late to get one. In other words, good communication with Paradox should be something for everyone who paid money to buy the game, not just the Gold-Hats.

Honestly, the extra attention/beta-testing is what does irk me. It isn't worth $10, but it's worth something. Mostly getting a less buggy version of the game.

I feel gamemakers are obligated to fix their mistakes in as timely a fashion as possible, and that includes beta-builds useable at your own risk. Sounds unreasonable, but Stardock does it, and they are the gold standard in customer support in PC games (Paradox meets 90% of that standard, the average game maker about 9%, so this isn't a slam on Paradox- who MOSTLY does a good job) Basically, Paradox is good, but I have seen it done better, so I can call them on that.

I have no problems with them getting strategy guides, or some extra non-gameplay related stuff. What I have a problem with is not having access to the same fixes others do, which makes my copy almost a shareware version. Thankfully, EU3 has been quite stable for an early-vers Paradox game- or I would be really upset. Especially since I try to use DD whenever possible to make sure that Paradox and not, say, Wally World or Target gets the money so they can send it to PACs to make things worse for us Americans.* (mild political rant)

*I'm assuming that Paradox gets more money due to a conversation with Stardock devs where they said a lot more comes to them when people bought it through SDC, but they preferred to have retail sales to have more shelf space/sales in future.

I was lucky that I when I was in Denver, a SuperTarget had a CE copy on the shelf. There isnt even a SuperTarget within 100 miles of my house in New Jersey.

While I agree that the availability was low, we paid more to get more.

I pre-ordered the game. The CE came to Target in my little town, so I bought the CE. Then my Pre-Order arrived a week later.....

The Game didn't work, so I bought a new Graphics card just for EU. The New Graphics card plays EU, but has some problems, and can't play videos....

So, Now over $200.00 into this investment, the EU3 saved games always crash from some bug. Business as usual. I'm not upset. EU3 delivers the finest historical gaming on the market. The Magna Munda MOd is incredible and displays player commitment to the product that goes beyond high praise. I'm 100% certain that EU3 will eventually become as fluid as the two games before it. Who know's, Multi-player may even work one day, and be enjoyable.

Whine all you like, the patch will be out when it fixes some of the many small aspects of EU3 that need tweeking. YOu could have the patch today, but it's not finished.....

As a CE owner, I'm sure that I don't do Beta testing, and it sounds like work to me. Beta Testing is just that......TESTING. Organized feedback. If you want to be a Beta tester so much, go out and buy the CE. Give your copy of the original game to a good friend that needs to get to know EU3.

Given that all my friends and I bought all of Best Buy's copies of EU there's no friend to give the game to not to mention that I don't have another $50 sitting around to blow on a game I already own. Sorry but given that I'm a student paying my own expenses I've got other more important things to spend my money on than several copies of the same product. Maybe with all that expendable income overflowing your pockets you could buy me a copy? No, didn't think so.

I agree the whole CE-holier-than-you stuff is pure BS. I paid the extra bucks because I read the 'includes official soundtrack' item on the packaging and actually thought there would be some extra music in there. Was I ever chuffed to find out it was simply the music from the game burned onto an extra CD.

Unfortunately "extra nifty" was not available when the game first came out, and some of us were too impatient to wait.

It sure would be nice if we had an option to upgrade...

I got it in my mailbox 4 days before the release date in sunny, beautiful Southeastern Michigan, USA.

My main issue is that I'd like the ability to upgrade my silver cap to a gold one without buying another game entirely. I shouldn't have to buy another entire game simply because the CE wasn't released on the stated release date and so the only copy of the game available was the regular edition.

Spot on. That's how I feel. I'll upgrade... where's the button? Seriously, is this an option I'm not aware of?

No offense to Paradox but there was nothing moving or exciting about the sound.

Oh I disagree... I like Andreas Waldetoft's (sp?) music very much. It fits the mood of the game without taking center stage. I've listened to it tons now while playing, and I'm still not bothered by it. Perhaps in time? ;) but not yet... They should have included more tracks in the CE though, that would be good.
