They should at least release news of the patch to the entire community. The CE owners can still be invited to the beta. I don't understand why being lucky enough to spend 10 more dollars on a game gets you better service, but oh well. I wish I could of found a CE at a local retailer.

I have to say the whole CE thing is really starting to get on my nerves tbh.

Would I have paid for it had it been available at regular game stores? Yes. Would I pay an additional 10 bucks now to upgrade? Yes.
Do I feel like being treated like a second class citizen because I went out the morning of release and bought it at the first place that actually HAD the game (Best Buy)? No.

I have to say that I agree with you. CE was not available in the US when the game came out in the US. So it feels like we are being penalized for not wanting to wait for the marketing snafu to be resolved. I would also gladly pay for an upgrade if one was available. Half the fun of the Paradox games for me is in working with the patches.

There really is no reason to limit those patches to the CE owners. That is very annoying.

Well, they're not limiting the patches to CE owners they're just using the CE folks as beta testers for patches to make sure all the kinks are out before they're released to the public (correct me if I'm wrong).

While I don't mind this (heck I applaud them for the idea and think it's a great way to improve patch quality) I do think that given the problems with CE here in the US (don't know what the situation was elsewhere) it is a little annoying to be left in the dark about so much. There are probably a number of people who would've gladly grabbed a CE copy over the regular copy had it been present.

I downloaded EU3 direct from Gamersgate on the day on the day of its release. I expect no special treatment. I expect no special treatment for buying every single game they have created and released, in some cases more than once.
What I expect is for Paradox to remind the "gold hats" not to assume that they have a superior position simply because they bought a more expensive product.

This whole situation makes my stomach turn. Most of all because of peoples reaction to having the status of CE owner.

If this makes me some kind of annoying whiner then I am proud to be one.

I certainly don't expect special treatment because I've been playing Paradox games for so long (btw Crusader Kings 2 would be a godsend ;) ). I'm just frustrated because if I had the option of the CE at the start I would've taken that option. I went to 7 stores (2 Wal-Marts, 3 Gamestops, Target and Best Buy) and only Best Buy even had the game (and on the shelves too!).

Had I bought the CE edition, I would be somewhat pissed if Paradox did not put me in a superior position simply because I bought a more expensive product :)

Some people seem to forget that Paradox still is a company supposed to be making a profit and computer games being nothing altruistic but rather products that enable those profits.

Don't worry. L'Afrique's post in this thread probably killed the idea of having a CE only pre-patch.

Although the way of the patches are mysterious as we all know... :)

I did buy the CE version, not for map or strategy guide, but only for the insurance that I wouldn't miss out on anything juicy in the future. :)

actually why not let everyone have a go at a beta patch....
the more ppl test it, the better it becomes...
they could maybe add a "download at your own risk" and disclaimers...

but the end result would be a better and more robust patch since its tested by a lot more ppl on a variety of systems...

I paid extra because the "What is the advantage to the CE?" thread said stuff about testing/etc. So basically my assumption was that I was paying for the right for what used to be the "public beta", but which was suspiciously absent from HOI2 and other recent titles. There was no way I was missing out on that, so I pre-ordered the CE from Pdox directly to ensure that I was included in that group.

People that don't like that have the option that you see some people have on this forum: Buy a CE version and have the Silver and Gold hats. Otherwise, if you have a Silver Hat, that's fine and all.

But please don't be angry when the Gold Hat people are given any special treatment. We paid for the added stuff.

Hey, it's Paradox's code. All we own is our individual copies. If they want to release a beta to the CE crew, that's their business. It might not have very good PR ramifications immediately, but let's face it: which of us in a month is going to remember that after the 1.2 patch is out? Is it going to prevent somebody from buying the next Paradox title? That's more likely to occur if a lot of the bugs and feature malfunctions aren't corrected, than anything else.

So let's sit back, and wait some more, and hope that one day, Paradox will be kind enough to those who paid for the game to provide us a list of forthcoming improvements. Maybe that can hold us for a while. ;)

They should have offered CE version in GamersGate.

CE might be good and all, but forcing people to wait for pre-ordered CE while regular one is avaliable on GamersGate is plain cruel.

I prefer GG to CDs and that is the reason why I got regular version. Perhaps I will get CE sometime in the future...

And yes, it makes perfect sence to give small bonuses to those who PAID MORE for the product.

You are wrong. :D
As of the moment I am posting this only the original beta testers are testing the patch.
CE was available to anyone, anywhere in the world months before its release from the Paradox web shop.
The owners of CE should recieve only what they were promised when they purchased it, nothing more nothing less. The confusion about Patches appears to be that CE owners were promised to have the inside track to become beta-testers in the future not BTs for EU III or its patches.

I fully agree that you did pay extra and I have no problem with you being given extra stuff from Paradox. Being part of the limited open beta for the patch is awesome.

However, those who bought the regular edition did also pay money for the game and should expect some base level of support and communication from the developers. Right now we get zilch and I think we are justified in being a little irked at being ignored.

EDIT: Paradox really botched the release of EUIII. If they wanted to entice customers to spend the extra money on the CE they should have made it available at the same time as the reg edition. Most hardcore fans bought the regular edition on GG because the CE wasn't available in stores for weeks. If they had coordinated the release correctly more fans would have gotten the product they preferred and Paradox would have made more money.

I have to admit, I feel like Paradox is dropping the ball on this myself. I couldn't find the CE, so I got the GG version, and suffered through some crappy DL speed, to make sure the money didn't go to a middleman. (same reason I bought GC2 through SDC- which handles DD much better)

Is this sufficient to make me want to boycott Paradox? No. Do I enjoy EU3 1.1? Yes, though I want the bugs fixed/features added (I enjoyed EU2 a bit more, though my standards were lower then).

I don't like the whole CE betaing patch thing- I know in the EU2 days everyone got to beta- and if you can improve things, why not- why make people wait? I don't understand that. Stardock doesn't do that (and I consider Stardock Paradox's most equivalent competitor.)
