Anyone know if you can continue old games from 1.1 in 1.2?

While the old games do work with the new patch, upon some quick tests, I think it may be best, to enjoy the new patch with a fresh start. Any of the puppets released (who didn't have governmental leaders) will remain without those leaders, though puppets released after installation of 1.2 will get them. My trades are thrown all out of whack because of the changes, I'm wading through and trying to figure out whats what.

Everything is looking up, except for this pesky AI which keeps on my butt. ;)

Start fresh. The patched .exe will still function with your old save games, but none of the new events or other changes will be evident, so you'll be playing HOI2 v1.15, not 1.20 ;)

Yeah I noticed that too. Looks like Ukraine gets leaders now!! Cool.

You need to start a new game for many of the new USSR events to work right - you might end up with some strange results if you don't. All other events should still work properly from then on.

Don't play from your old games. There are a lot of things that only happen when a new game is restarted. For example, the enhanced ai files, on which a ton of time was spent, will not apply to old games. You have to start a new one to get the advantage of using these files. You won't get the Soviet Union's new military chaos that has been implemented. You won't get the rebalanced techteams if you continue a 1.1 game. There are a lot of other things that won't happen if you continue your old game. While it may technically be able to load a 1.1 game in 1.2, I would just start over to get the full flavor and effect of 1.2.

Stonewall,

My MP group is continuing a game started in February. We are not restarting and giving up all the progress so far. Should we install dual installations/don't upgrade? Or should we all patch and enjoy new features?

Main concern is stability. I would like any new puppets to be souped up and any applicable bug fixes, so 1.15 would be nice... Should we just put the patch off to next game?

I HIGHLY recommend that you start a new game after patching to 1.2.
There are a crapload of things that you will miss out on.

Again, if that's directed at me, no f'ing way. I'm too invested in this MP game. What I'm asking is if it will degrade stability or give us any weird errors.

I'm not asking for guarantees, but I would like some idea one way or the other before we risk a week's session to un/reinstall our games back to 1.1 by trying it.

I would hate to state categorically one way or the other but...

I *think* that if you have a humans playing most (preferably all) of the majors then you would be better off all upgrading to 1.2 and continuing from there. You'll be missing out on events, AI files, etc., but the overall stability should be better.

I would strongly recommend that you set a game rule for a temporary truce while you all sort out your respective nations since some stuff is likely to be altered quite a bit and may take a week (in-game week) or two to get it all ironed out.

Still...I'd give some very serious thought to a restart with the 1938 scenario.

I hope that helps - and remember that I'm primarily guessing that you won't find the changes a gamebreaker when applied to your situation.

:)

P.S. If you have AI Russia, Germany or UK I'd stick with 1.1 and do a dual install.

Is it possible to start from 1938? It'd be a hop-skip to the 1939 and we could try out the new scenario?

Although I'd agree it'd be a crud to have wasted all that time. I'm up for a 1.5 till the end though. Either way I'm good with either restarting or trying 1.5.

Nah, the majors are all covered. Thanks Mr. T. Your qualified guess sounds good enough for me to propose it to the guys. At worst, if folks find it screws things up we'll go back to 1.1.
Pedal, we'll talk in our sub-forum with the others.
