@Meglok Agreed again, the NFs are a decent system in principal but the application is far too linear to work in a fluid environment, as well as missing the simple option to "Nope" out when an NF finishes that can lead to war but doing so would be stupid. (which seems to be about half of the DoW ones). The AI should have at least some sense of self-preservation.

HOI3 had a governor on the DoW decision where the AI would take a look and decide today is not a good day to die. Either that is missing now or more likely the poorly written focus decisions are over riding all other considerations.

It is most definatly the focus decisions. In theory, the focus decisions do have a "will_lead_to_war_with = TAG" script, in theory, should cause the AI to evaluate picking that focus. But it seems like either the script is broken, or the code that causes the AI to evaluate war decisions is broken. Either way, something is broken and needs to be fixed. I actually had a Germany one time that invaded Poland, then ended up in war with the Soviet Union due to the Anti-Soviet pact. Than, in the middle of Barbarossa, attacked the Low Countries. For no reason. Germany was not at war with the allies at the time.

So I am seeing this 100% in all my games where I am either Italy or Japan. 4 playthroughs so far, in all 4 Germany just abandoned the Poland front and they cannot defeat them. I have attached a save game while playing a Japan that shows this and also shows how Italy cannot defeat Yugoslavia although they have them surrounded.

Very small, cheap low prio garrisons on the border and on all VPs would be nice, but putting your whole battle army by a nearby nation wpuld make them rather concerned lol

I also like the strategic reserve but the ai us so dumb i have zero hope for something sophisticated

I think the big issue of the ai is that it cannot cancel movement commands. It tells a unit to move from leningrad to vladivostoc and then just thinks its there even though it will not be for a month or so.
If leningrad gets attacked, the ai will never ever turn that division it just sent to the far east around. Instead it will pick a division in vladivostock (hey there is another arriving from leningrad "soon") and send that one.
This happens all the time, within frontlines, within theaters and even across theaters.
Watch the suez canal of an ai controlled Uk. You see divisions getting moved in both directions all the time.

He doesn't even need them. Just really, start a game from 1939 as Italy and watch Germany not being able to finish of Poland and as soon as they declare on low countries, they move all their armies there leaving the polish front empty. Really, just everyone here, do that a few times. I got it 5 times in a row.
