Yeah, that Procopius, writing that Justinian married Theodora. Did he really think anyone was going to believe him?

Edward IV's wife was also lowborn, I believe, though such things were less common on the continent. So, yes, monarchs should be strongly disinclined to marry lowborns, but it shouldn't be banned. Anyway, they tried to fix this in 1.09, so perhaps it will work in 1.09a.

Correct, though he married her in secret and only because he was absolutely besotted and she refused to sleep with him (or continue sleeping with him) until he married her. Edward IV would certainly quality for the 'lustful' trait, so perhaps making that a requirement for a king to marry a lowborn would be a good idea. Even better, having them need to be in love (with the +100 relation) would make sense, as clearly a king would never marry a lowborn for political reasons.

Yeah, that seems fair. I like the idea that traits influence what decisions a character can make, rather than just adding pluses or minuses to ratings.

@ hylander25: There needs to be a blanket ban on nobles marrying lowborns to avoid the lowborn marriage spam that's happening since 1.08.

I think the issue is the sheer amount of lowborns in courts. In reality, courts were typically filled with lower nobility - all who tended to be politically marriage-worthy. Only very emeritus lowborns made it into counts, dukes or kings courts. We should see a definite cut back in the amount of lowborns in courts. That will probably go some way to fixing the issue.

I don't think a blanket ban fixes the problem - it just band aids it. If thats the case, why not remove lowborns from the game? They only serve one purpose after you cut out marriage, and that is positions on the council. And if they are only good for that (you suffer no repercussions for putting them on your council) why not just make them noble. There's no consequence.

I dont think a blanket ban would work.

I don't know why we have the lowborns in game, probably so that not 100% of characters are nobles.

Some people speculated that the lowborns are actually lower nobility, but not marriage-worthy.

I wish an Option to attack Factions as a Liege. Maybe make them hidden like plots and that you have to uncover them but every conspiracy with the goal to get independence or lower my authority is right against my throne which I posses in the Name of the greatest Kings of all: God.

Also, for kings sake, implement a second Opinion Modifier called Fear or Authority. This second opinion modifier could be raised by actions that are tyrant or events like winning a succession/independence war. If someone is feared by you he would not consider actions like joining a faction etc. Several Traits like Brave or Coward or whatever could affect this. So a brave Duke is still very likely to join a rebellion even if he as fear or respect for your might though a coward just needs to be feared a bit to stay away from any plot to harm you.

The AI needs some "fear" because as a player you want to hold your land together and so you do not take choices out of fear that you coul fail. The the AI should do the same. It should not calculate "Ah, 50% Levy Size in the Faction... well, lets start!" and then annoy you to death. Also the immersion is broken for no duke seems to think of his own life. He simply do not care if he is seen as a traitor because a frigging tyrant modifier is saving him from the most harm, and sometimes the prison event fires up... just random.

I mean, an absolute crown Law in the 12th/13th Century is absolutely against any history, so why still keep the tyrant modifier?
If you are a traitor, you die! If you plot against the royal family, you die!

Also I would like some "Marshal"-Mechanic. I want to put someone (one of my own vassals) in charge of the military forces of a region to automate several military actions. Its just boring to control a campaign as a player just to bring down some rebel scum, I know that vassals can send their own troops if they are strong enough but sometimes they are not, especially in newly conquered areas. With this action I could make someone marshal of, lets say, southern Iberia. By the kings authority he can raise levies from several counties he has no direct command over (as a duke or else) to face any threat in the area.

The total casualties at the end of a war, specific nobles and the number of killed soldiers

THIS - brilliant, simple additions that would really make dynastic/political book keeping a little easier.

I cant tell you how many times I've asked myself "Now what happened to that noble that had a really great diplomacy skill?" only to find out by chance three years later he died in a war of mine.

I personally don't mind lowborns. It adds some historical flavor. Sure, most courts were filled with low nobility, but the occasional commoner could potentially make it.

This indeed would be very nice, and pave the way for the inevitable future DLC that allows you to play Theocracies. Right now, creating a Republic from scratch is a pain in the butt.

Improving the Crusade mechanics by changing it from the winner-takes-all system currently employed. It would be neat if the baronies and cities were distributed according to the war contribution, such that the target county is given to the new king, but everything else is given at random, scaled to the contribution percentage.
This thing ruined my game as patrician of republic of Ireland. As low patrician, I enjoyed reaping gold and power behind back of my ruler -serene doge. Crusade was called, so, I thought: I have whealth, I have power (10k large personal guard), I need only fame to get into kingdom of heaven. So I took all my ships, all my troops and sailed toward Al-Andalus. I sieged one province, crusade ended and I was awarded with whole damned kingdom and king title so I transformed from fellow patrician to ruler of new republic.

This ruined my game.

I'd like an option where you can support factions outside your immediate realm. For example say you are a duke in Ireland, if you send your spymaster to scheme in England, in your faction menu you have the option of viewing available factions in that kingdom (and in that duchy). You can then choose to support that faction (but you cannot start one). I also think it would be fun if you could contribute financially to a faction, so that the faction leader can convince more to join, or hire mercenaries on submitting his ultimatum.

Nerf Republics, so that they make less money off of trade posts, and it should be much harder for them to sieze cities, and especially entire provinces. I'm sick and tired of seeing a Genoese North Africa and Spanish coast. Also the Reconquista is being finished within a 100 years, because the Muslim states in Southern Spain can't hold off both the Christian Spanish and the Republic's mercenaries.

And no more France/HRE in North Africa or Spain, its weird and ugly.
